I remember seeing some of these back when I was driving for Dick Simon in the late 90s but then I quit trucking for 15 years and now I don’t see them anymore. How come they disappeared?

I dont know if Arnold got rid of theirs before or after US Express took over 50% ownership? They may still have some but I havent seen any in a long time?

I suspect the extra four feet led to a lot of backing accidents in tight truck stops and were a liability.

I used to work for Lane who was bought by LinkAmerica who was bought by Arnold and they all had a bunch of 57’ trailers. They are legal in TX and some of OK.

Right turn accidents were/are high due to the excessive tail swing . I’m not sure if that plays into it

Many 57' trailers are/were "Road-Railers" that railroads could literally string together atop removable articulated bogeys using the trailer floor/chassis itself as the stressed unit.
