I've recently been offered employment by a reputable otr co. and just need to know what is considered otr. They're checking with my last employer and I hauled containers from state to state but never really stayed out for weeks at a time. Any help with this question would be appreciated.
OTR is long haul. Two, three weeks at a time seems common. Some do more time away from home, some less.
More confusion .........some companies NOW only count experience as employment at a company bigger than 300 trucks !!!! Figure that out. Work for a company that only has 250 trucks=No Experience ??? I think they only want the institutionalized drivers !!!!!!
When your suitcase runs out of clean clothes and you have to do laundry at a truck stop, you are a long haul driver.
A truck driver with a suitcase? Wow, that's classy. The one's I know use black plastic trash bags. Observe the next time you are in the shop at the company terminal. Look behind the oil barrels in the corner and the driver waiting for his "new" truck to get serviced.
