What we have found is that the big brokers are the ones primarily at fault here.
They are taking all the fuel surcharges and a bunch of the load money and you guys are running with it.
I'll Give a Quick Example: Shipper is paying 5.25 a mile and broker is putting it on the board AND GETTING IT MOVED a lot of the time for 2.94 a mile.
I'll put some numbers with that.
Load paid 804 dollars with fuel surcharge on 153 miles. Broker had it listed for 450 and moved it.
The broker was................. "something you build a house on" and "something you see when you look into the heavens at night".
I took the 804 thank you very much.
The brokers motto is keep the drivers broke and hungry.

Quite simple, too many trucks and not enough leftovers for the broker boards.

While the number of loads have gone down due the very poor state of the economy that's not the whole story.
We still have shippers and brokers begging us for trucks and that tells me the freight they have posted up is to cheap. For the most part this is true too. Many people that I work for would rather pay me the higher price to do the loads because they know that it's going to get there when they want it there. Good customer service is far from dead in this country. On a big brokers board though they are small change. On my list, they are numero uno.
It's good for me and them. I drive less miles for more money. To the OP I can only say that your vote counts. If you want a good sense approach to life's issues and less government interference vote accordingly.
