What is the final straw here

    Here's been the sequence of events for me with Atlas Van Lines so far:

    I got a job with a small Atlas agent in order to get my CDL. Now I'm a Class A driver, driving both straight trucks and tractor trailers to do local moves.

    I was told I'd need to do a job application for Atlas Van Lines directly in order to get approved for interstate jobs, which is where real money is made (allegedly).

    I did the application and seemingly it got approved, because they had me move forward to (re-)do a federal drug test and FMCSA clearinghouse authorization.

    Now my fleet manager is telling me I need to modify my application and change my desired job selection from company driver to local driver until our new ELDs come in.

    So he wants me to apply to a job I'm already doing? The whole point of getting Atlas qualified is to go out of state. I am already a local driver. I can't be approved for a promotion because the company lacks equipment to do the job I'm applying for? Why can't I be approved now and go out immediately when the ELDs arrive?

    To top it off, someone from corporate sent my fleet manager an email demanding I stop calling corporate to ask about the approval process. Uh excuse me I thought you said you have a driver shortage when I first called. Why am I not allowed to ask about what it's going to take to keep my family fed?

    I got my CDL in October. At what point do I say these people are just jerking me around and leave?

    First, have a sit-down with your manager and ask him straight up what's going on. Plan accordingly based upon his response.

    You get to decide. A smart driver always has a Plan B company in their pocket. If you can find a better job, leave. If you cannot find one, stay, but keep looking.

    You know, you have a cdl, so you're golden for many companies. Hit the road with another company, then in 12 mos. go to Atlas or another moving company.

    So, I did that and it was really weird. He got upset like this was a big hassle for him and he told me that my dispatcher and the owners (who had told me different things than him) didn't know what they were talking about.

    Getting straight answers out of people is a teeth-pulling operation around here.

    The thing that keeps me hanging around is that Atlas drivers do seem to get paid well, and supposedly my approval is right around the corner. If I go to another company just to come back to this, that would feel like 12 months down the drain.

    Try this company in Orlando, FL
    At least tell them you'll hit the road as a helper for awhile. This way you have your foot in the door.
    You'll stay busy because people from all over the USA are moving to Florida.
