Not the most efficient but the safest way of driving.

I would like to send a message to the HR C that rejected my app because I didn't float flawlessly on my test drive.

I'd say floating is both safer and more efficient. The less the driver is moving around in the cab, the more energy they can devote to driving the truck. Double clutching is just a waste of friction material.

Neither is safer. You should be able to double clutch, for safety reasons, some situations it is better to do it. Floating is more convenient, perhaps easier on the clutch, harder on the gears if your are less than perfect in your timing. Either way if a company wants you to be able to float and you can't, move on and find another company.

If you're on a downhill and the weight of the load begins to push against the driveline, you'll notice floating doesn't work very well anymore. At that point you'll at least need to push the clutch in to get it OUT of gear.

Again, I'd advise you just move on. No need to burn bridges, you never know what may happen in the future.

Mr safety will tell you the cdl book says to never ever shift going downhill. Or in an intersection. Or over a rail road crossing. Or while making a turn. Heck its got so many times of when not to shift its amazing we ever get out of the low side of the tranny.

Double clutch, single clutch, float. None of them are any safer than any other.
