What the best from your experience?

    Im due to get my truck in a week or two. I want the best quality stuff thats going to last me while. I need a cb radio, a high powered inverter, frig, and a gps. Could you provide the brand, model number and the best price you seen on the item. Thanks in advance.

    I like the Cobra 29LX for a CB. The wearherbands are useful. Price ranges from 99-129 depending on what truckstop has them on sale. I dont use an inverter because i run an APU. For a GPS i recommend the Rand McNalley TND 510, or TND 720. Prices from 269-399.

    I'm sure there's probably multiple threads on everything on this forum, however it could be outdated, not the best, the cheapest stuff, and i'm sure its not all in one thread. So thanks for stating the obvious!

    I think what MsJamie was suggesting was doing a search. From your answer it seems you have not looked yet. I am on this thread daily and questions like yours get asked daily.

    Look at what the threads have to offer and then do a search on those model suggestions.

    Prices vary from dealer to dealer and depending on what you want to buy or spend will vary on each item.

    As you are showing as a student I would suggest you buy something to get you along for the first year. If you make it past the first year then plan on upgrading. Your pay will not be the greatest the first year and you may find yourself in a situation that will prevent you going beyond the first year. If this happens you can be hundreds or thousands of miles from home and will be put on a bus with what you can carry.

    Try doing searches first be it on TTR or on the internet. Read what others have to say and you will get many different answers. It will be up to you to decide.

    But, as suggested concentrate on learning the job of driving a truck first to make yourself a more safe driver.

    I've done research. Read a lot of threads. Thank you! In order for me to enjoy life on the road I have to make sure my down time is spent not being bored. My research has bought me to several different items. Rand McNally 720. Cobra 29 nw but I want to know if there is something better.

    I apologize if my reply came across as a bit snide. Your first post came across as "do this research for me", and I reacted to that.

    I have been researching those same things for the past month or two, and haven't come up with the "one best" for anything. It's been more of a process of elimination for me.

    CB: Mine will be a bone stock AM/SSB rig, probably perma-set on 19. Reason is that I'll have a $1000 ham rig up there as well.

    Inverter: Assuming that I need one, it's going to be a true sine wave unit. It will NOT be one sold in a truck stop!

    Refrigerator: Assuming you don't already have one, there are two schools of thought. Get an expensive truck refrigerator, or a cheap dorm unit with extended warranty from some place like Lowe's. I'm considering getting a dedicated freezer unit (door on top) and keep it under the bunk, so I can keep some frozen food handy.

    GPS: No comment; don't want to start a flame war...

    Same here. Your post came across as "I don't want to research - tell me" type of post.

    As a new driver try to get into a routine that you can live with. I normally when I shut down was finish any paperwork, get a shower/eat, catch up on E-Mails and try to get at least 5-6 hours of sleep, get up an hour before rolling and get myself together. Do my pre-trip and pre-paperwork and be ready to roll on the minute the 10 hrs was up.

    Can goods and noodles are a good staple to have on the truck. Many times you will be at a location for hours and you cannot leave.
