what to do when...

You are out of hours and there's no where close to park ? This is my first week by myself and trip planning is the hardest thing for me as I can't foresee traffic or long waits getting loaded, wich put me no where I need to be at the end of the day. Any help is greatly appreciated .

 

64 million dollar question...do the best you can do...cause it happens..it happen to me the other night.. my clocked stopped at 8:45pm.. they didnt finish loading me till 9:30 pm.. I couldn't park on the customer..ended up driving way to long to find a place..

Walmart, Sam's club, weigh stations, exit ramps.. Ask the shipper or receiver where you can go. They may not be able to let you stay on their property, but they usually know where you can go to shutdown. They are not as insensitive to our HOS rules as many drivers like to believe. Politeness goes a long way with them.

 

Exit ramps is a bad choice. If you have to an on ramp is better, but you can get a ticket in many states for it.

I would look for any industial area, worst comes to worst, find a factory, back into there doors, set the alarm, get up early, get out. Or, go into the back of the company and sleep. I never had to worry about that. Had local work for 37 years. Mapquest you last stop, look at the area on mapquest.

Do your trip planning to allow yourself the extra time needed to get to a truck stop or rest area. Rest areas are shown on the atlas and there are truck stop guides you can pick up for a few bucks. They are your best tools for trip planning.

 

Finding a spot after dark is alot harder than it used to be.I don`t know about the rest of the country but on the east coast if you aren`t parked in a truckstop by sunset-you`re gonna have a hard time.
