Hey everyone, I'm about to turn 20 here fairly soon and was hoping to get a CDL and then take to the road. I know that a lot of the big carriers require you to be at least 21. My question is, can i enroll in a CDL school while I'm 20 as long as I'm 21 upon graduation?

Any information would be helpful. Thanks guys!

You can. Some companies will not hire drivers until they are 23 or even 25 because of insurance requirements, but there are companies that will hire someone at 21.

Have you decided on a company to drive for? If so, I would check to see what their reqirements are as far as age goes. Also, I believe some companies require a refresher course if a certain ammount of time lapses after you graduate from school, so keep that in mind.

It's pretty much all been said. Do ample research on schools and companies, or companies that have schools. Find one or some that you like and determine the age requirements. Don't settle for a company that may not be right for you just because they are willing to take you at age 21. Also remember that getting a permit only requires a written test and a few bucks. I don't know if you know anyone with a truck, but you may be able to legally get some practice in.

Yes, you can get your schooling now, but just know that you may be looking for awhile. If you're OK with that, then go for it.
