Guys my first yr of otr has been a disaster.First no one would take me i have 6 months of local ag prior to 2010 and then when i finally found a job with a local company i got shafted the pay was ok but the equipment issues are terrible i told my boss about the issues and the answer would be the same will take care of it when you come back...i got red tagged for an oil leak which my boss knew about but said it cost too much money to fix would that be on my DAC report? so the final straw my ac broke down on the way from El Paso and i told him i wouldn't leave back to TX until he fixed it he said i was a sissy and laid me off it was over 100 degrees out there WTF:biggrin_25510:so i got in with another company running 11 western they put me on a 1997 2 axle conversion to a three axle (dead axle)freight liner cab over at .21 cents a mile the first day at work the injectors went out on the junk and they told me to head back to the yard wich took me 6.5 hrs to reach at 25 miles an hr i was like wuuut?:biggrin_2554:I broke down on the hottest day in the history of LA 2010 i almost died...an old pulley broke off the junk...plus they told me no illegal runs and 70% of the time i ran illegal WTF?so i left for a company that promised good pay and loads and for two months it was ok but the month of jan 2011 iv only done 1 load!!!He doesnt have any loads...says the loads are too cheap cuz everybody bids in cheap and he rather park the trucks than give us work:biggrin_2553:im ready to give up on trucking my friends iv managed to screw up my work history and now im broke behind on everything i think i have 1 more shot at this but im afraid to get shafted again what should i do? wish me good luck at mcdonalds :biggrin_25513:

    1). Don't give up.
2). Apply for someone else after you've made up your mind as far as where you want to work for awhile.

Don't work for cheapskates that aren't willing to maintain their equipment if you decide to work at another smaller outfit. People that are bad at taking care of their trucks are apparently bad at managing a business, and shouldn't even be in business.

It sucks, that you've had to go through this type of situation, but I can promise you, there are millions of drivers out there with stories, just like yours, and worse!!!! I can't say definitely about your red tag incident going on your Dac, but I can say with certainty, that with the new laws out, as of 01/01/2011 it'll be on your PSP.... Check my blog for more info and arm yourself...... Good luck, and know this, as long as we (drivers) continue to work for these cut-rate cheap-### companies, they'll continue to exist.......Peace.

Ah yes, alot of us (most) reading your post understand, cause we have been there..I realize it sounds corny as hell,ut if you keep trying, you will find your "niche"(a ok company)and when you do,you will not take it for granted...However,if you quit the trucking industry altogether, hundreds of thousands do every year,so feel no shame & hold your head high..-Good Luck....:biggrin_2556:

i know how you feel!! I bought a truck for my first driving job. I hauled rock and sand local for 3 months and no money was made. So then i leased on with a small co. hauling hopper bottom otr. I worked for him for about a yr then found out how much he was really taking off the top"as they all do" so i got mad and got my own authority and i bought a brand new hopper trailer. I started pulling off load boards for hoppers but money was hard to gt because most co. only pay 1 time a month. So then i got hooked up with a co. out of GA and brokerd loads through them and made great money about 3500 a week after fuel and life was great untill my wife called one day and said that co. bounced a 10,000 check!!! and the bank froze my account. while i was on the road so i had no money for fuel except credit cards which can max out quick ay 600 buks a fill up. took me 6 months to get my money!! so i tried to pull for another broker out of MS he was great never had a problem but got home sick after a year. Sold my trailer and started pulling containers local but with a 1,000 truck payment and 4.75 a gallon fuel it didnt work so i lost my truck my house my great credit and my wifes car!!!

Then i took off about 2 years and bought another truck cash!! 04 century. Pulled local made decent money untill dec.31 then the co kept saying oh its slow so i waited and waited well a month later still no work and they sent me a letter in the mail saying my lease was terminated lol what a puss that guy is he lied and lied then fired me for no reason!!! SO here i am a month behind on my bills no job and back at square 1......... i should of learned my lesson the first time but ive been in a truck since i was 5 with my dad and all my uncles and grandfather were driver also so its in my blood and i love to hate it! Hang in there but if you dont theres no shame in it!!! GOOD LUCK!!
