It's a honest question... I'm sitting here in York, NE. Current temps is 72 degrees with a nice breeze. A core truck to my left... A hummer truck to my right... Both trucks were shut down, then the driver's walked out & both fired up there trucks & are sitting their idling.... I can understand if it was 100 degrees or 30 below... but the current temps are perfect non-idling conditions... I guess since the driver's don't have to purchase their own fuel, They don't really care?
I misinterpreted your question. I thought you were asking how long did they idle before leaving.... They are going onto 2 hours idling now.
i have batteries that need to be charged. after leaving the truck running for about an hour to an hour and a half, i'll shut it down for rest of the day...unless my low voltage warning begins beeping.
That is why I asked the question... The temps are fine in my mind... It wasn't until after I started asking the question that I realized they were company trucks. I have batteries that need charging also... But I normally handle that rolling down the interstate. Although.... I'm roughing it compared to a lot of trucks I'm seeing. I have no TV, no Satellite, no game system, no microwave, no shower, no stove, no oven, no cooler, no refrigerator, or any of those other fancy gadgets....
I drive a company truck but I am very conscious of idling. Why pollute when there is no need. I do have a feature called optimized idle that I like very much. I set the temp where I want it and the engine starts and stops automatically to maintain it. It also will start if my battery voltage drops to 80% (I'm told). This works very well. I don't think it cost very much. I know it saves a ton on idle fuel.
