Why work for a small carrier? They are just rolling CSA 2010 targets!

The smaller the carrier, the larger the bull's eye!

    Not all of them.....

I know one with 16 trucks, and a perfect score.

Been in business since 1989, and runs a good outfit. ........

However, he may be a dying breed !!!!!!!!!!!

Sadly, it's the smaller carriers, for the most part, that have the worst scores. Many of the big guys, with some exceptions (Knight, for example), have good safety scores. The little guys, i.e., the ones with the least amount of "fix-it" money, are gonna get slaughtered, IMO. I'd have to go back and find the article but I read somewhere that the really, really small carriers, the ones with the fewest # of inspections, the ones with no CR history, might be increasingly on the CSA 2010 radar. It seems that DOT feels these little guys have been sliding under the radar and that they (the little guys) are a big source of the problem. DOT has known this for a long time. Why have they let the little guys dig there own grave? Why, just now, is there a New Entrant program?

I sincerely hope not! Carriers like this are, IMO, the rank and file of capitalism at it's finest. It's hard to look up to the big dogs at the mega-carriers, although I'm sure some of them "boot-strapped" their way up!

You answered your own question. The government is against capitalism by individuals and very small corps.

I read an article recently, just have to remember where.
The large fleets you see all over this site comprise 15% of the trucks on the road.
The other 85% are small fleets with less than 100 trucks.

Yes the DOT will target these smaller carriers for a while to get inspections done, but once they have a few and pass them the company's will be fine.
Many times the safe stat scores on these company's are high because they have no inspections. So the safe stat system automatically bumps the score past 95 and puts them into the inspect category to gather more info.
It even says that on the rating.
My last company was like that. It went to 98 for about 2 months, but said reason was lack of information. Once they had a few inspections it went back down below 50.

I guess my question is if you have a high rating will they just pull you in for inspection more often. Im curious because i have looked up some local amigos that pull hoppers and there score is 90% is that a manadatory audit?

Yep they'll get more random inspections till they get enough good inspections to bring the score down.
