Would a smaller inverter last longer?

My company truck came with a 2000 watt inverter, which is pretty nice. But really all I use it for is for my 27" monitor and my PS4 Slim which from my googling use 45 and 40-65 watts (depending on what it's doing) respectively.

I know the bigger the inverter the more power it uses, so I'm wondering if I get a smaller inverter (120-150 watt should work, right?) would it run the pair for longer before the battery warning goes off? Or would the difference by negligible?

I get a bonus for idling the truck under a certain amount, so I'm trying to get that as low as possible, but if we're talking about gaining a few minutes of juice then it's probably not worth it.

Anyway, just an idea. If anyone could shed some light on the subject that would be great.

Yes a larger inverter "can" use more power simply because it can handle more watts but I don't know if you are only running 100 watts through it if there would be more overhead on the total consumption or not ...

Anyone here with a degree in EE might have some insight. Or just get one and play until the batteries are dead... and then compare... LOL

 

You big inverter will only pull from the batteries the power it consumes. If your uses pull 120 watts, that's all it pulls from the batteries, no matter how much more it could pull. Think of it as dipping your coffee cup into a small pan of water or dipping it into a swimming pool. Either way, you are only pulling a coffee cup amount of water out of the "water supply" or battery.

 

You want an inverter that can handle double what your normal use is. Mainly for those times where you might peak out on your draw. So if all your normal usage is 150 watts, you want at a minimum of 300. And from what I recall a ps4 uses a lot more than 45 watts.
