Depends on what you're wanting to write off and how (i.e. as truck driver, O/O, etc.).

You can check on the IRS's website: http://www.irs.gov/ and look under the "Current Forms & Publications" tab. If you're wanting to write business loss off, check Publication # 535.

You can even take off subscriptions to things like Sirius radio, internet service.

Not according to the auditor I had. She classed them as personal.

She felt cleaning supplies, windex, paper towels, gloves, etc were personal.

You must have had one cranky auditor, RM....

Under IRS Publication 463 "Travel, Entertainment, Gift, and Car Expenses" Page 12, you can deduct expenses such as satellite radio, internet service, etc. under "entertainment" if you are subject to "hours of service" limits and are away from your tax home. And in some cases, these expenses may fall under an employee expense if you're using the item to conduct your job - like listening to satellite radio for traffic & weather alerts for road conditions or using your internet & laptop to process your paperwork, trip planning, weather & traffic alerts, or your personal cell phone to make calls to your employer, etc.

It all boils down to how each publication is understood and what items in question you want to deduct. You are limited (regular employees @ 50%, "hours of service" limit employees @ 80%) in how much you may deduct.

I would strongly urge you to read up on the most recent IRS publications: #463 "Travel, Entertainment, Gift, and Car Expenses", #535 "Business Expenses", #946 "Depreciation", and #1542 "Per Diem Rates".

I am an enrolled agent to practice before the IRS. I am well versed in this. It has been a fight to the death. The latest change she did was quite costly concerning the TAX HOME. Wiped out all my per diems at the place I pick up and motel bills. Quite a large sum of money.

    I am in Appeals now.

The agent advised me that they were going to be looking at all expenses that truck drivers are using. We are now in the spot light.

I don't believe that is right, but I'm not going to say it isn't, but husband was told by a company preparer that it was and cleaning supplies, etc also were.

    This maybe due to interpretation.
