To Float or not to Float?

Hi,my name is Don.I am located in south/central Louisiana.I have spent many,many hours on the internet researching the trucking industry and have come to the conclusion that the Oil Industry area of freight commerce would be the most profitable in my area.I currently have a enclosed 20' vehicle/utility trailer,and I am considering either trading in my enclosed trailer for a 40' Minifloat,or keeping the enclosed trailer for those "special"deliveries.This whole trucking industry thing is sometimes overwhelming,but at the same time very challenging.Those of you out there who have been in the buiness for a while can guide me in the right dirction.I have talked to other Owner/Operators about this and everybody has a diffirent answer.I have also talked to various trucking companies about getting the minifloat,and they all say that there is lots of work out there for this type of rig.I want feedback from those of you that are out there working it everyday.Your responce is respected,and appreciated. A "mini float" is a 25' to 40' flatbed gooseneck trailer,and down here in the south,there ia a lot of oil industry related driving jobs.You are right about having multiple trailers for diffirent types of loads.Still not too clear on the authority thing,so I'll just get on board with a local trucking company and do regional runs for now. MOPARS RULES!!!

 

The cutoff here in Louisiana is 15,000#'s and if you are with a lagit trucking company,they will never max out your load.I hesitated in using the term "Hot Shot" driver,because some people had no clue what a "Mini Floater" was.The two fall hand in hand.But that is exactly what I"m talking about.Lagit "Hot Shot" drivers have to abide by a lot of Federl and State laws like any other commerical carrier.We all know that there are some renegade truckers out there doing their own thing.Keep your head dry in WV.The rain a comin!!!!..or it may already be there!!!!!
