Thread: Hood Fever, Is there a cure?

Mack is becoming very popular in Canada. One company , Paul's hauling, has a bunch of them . They do all b train work so 100000 pounds plus loads. They must do the job because Paul's has been around along time and that's wat they are using.

Mack is probably the best vocational truck out there (dumps, tanker, heavy short haul, flatbed) As stated tho they do lack storage, but so does any flat top Pete, WS or KW. If you want a truck to live in for 2-3 weeks at a time then you should probably get a condo sleeper or spend the coin on a studio. I personally would take a Mack CH over any other truck out there for running a flatbed/stepdeck regionally. They are one tough truck !!!

They are definatly made to take abuse. I was close to buying a pinnacle when I was truck shopping. It had been used as local grain hauler and wasn't in too bad shape. Just wasn't keen on a truck that spent its life pulling b trains out of fields, that's hard on the drive train. I really like the Rawhides as well, they are popular in Canada as well Bison trans has a few of them and they are a mean looking truck.

If I were to ever go to the trouble of owning a truck it would have to satisfy some "want" aspect as well as the "makes money" aspect if I'm going to be driving it every day and making payments on it. Style and form count for something in OTR trucking in my opinion. If you truly don't care about driving a cool rig and just want to make big bucks you can go drive line haul for one of the major LTL's. They've got lots of ugly/not cool trucks to drive.

Does that include fuel & lube?

Once a payment exceeds three digits per MONTH before the decimal point leaves my comprehension range.
How do they even get by once repairs & tire replacement starts to kick in. I know there are maintenance accounts, but you got to have something to fill them with too.

I have been buying a lot parts for a 2003 truck lately & look at what is on the lots every time. If you are strictly comparing fuel mileage pulling a box, then a properly spec'd aero truck may have a advantage. BUT if you find a hood that has been o/o maintained with records vs. the absolute junk fleets are turning in & the sales lots are pushing, changes everything.
As mentioned, mine is a 03 & is cleaner/better shape than most 4/5/6 year old units I have seen on the lots. Some of those aero trucks are going to take quite a bit of cash to get back in shape. You will have no idea how many drivers were in it, what has or has not been done mechanically.
