can any o/o give me a heads up on landstar

Dry van is not very stong in TX/LA with Landstar, platform would make you much more $$$$.

Dry van is VERY strong up here near Chicago tho if you stick to IL/IN/OH/WI/MI

As for net and pay, it will be different for every dirver. We are paid percentage, not mileage and we book our own loads and that is why it's different. Some of us have good agents and only run for $2 mile, the rest run whatever. Nobody is the same as the next guy. It's not like Schneider, Werner, Swift, ECT ECT....

 

If you are just starting out.. they won't hire you.. need to be 25 and have atleast 1 year of safe driving.... Landstar is what you make it.. if you restrict yourself to Texas Louisiana you will go broke... When i was there I would go fort worth to columbus oh.. to Atlanta and back to Columbus or DFW... If I went to Oh out of Ga I would go to DFW out of OH.. If I ran the 2600 mile FW/OH/Ga/DFW.. I would clear about 2100..... If I did the DFW/OH/Ga/Oh/Dfw I would do about 3100 on 3300 miles.. That was clear money..

I didn't get any advances ate out of a box or a wal mart and was called Ebeenzer Scrooge by the other drivers because I didn't spend money anywhere..

 

Last month I spoke with a couple drivers that only ran TX intra with LS and they did well. But they have been with them for over 5-years and have relationships established. But in general SHC is spot-on with general market in TX. Very tough. To give you an idea. I just got 8-12 loads per week from El Paso to MI. I put it out for bids. Within 12-hours I had over 20 responses with 5 (2 being LS agents) having enough trucks to cover all the loads. NOT A SINGLE BID WAS OVER $1.50/MILE and most under $1.40. That is the market you are working against.

 

$150k a year?!? Is that what you're making now? My hats off to you. You are in the top 2% in this industry.

If that is a goal, then you are going to really need to stop and build a very detailed plan. You will likely need to get specialized and offer additional services beyond the driving.

 

You can do that here, if your intelligent and business minded, as well as plan on working a lot. If you're just starting out though, you'll need to get experience somewhere else first. I'm talking about platform freight as well(step deck or flat).

Was MRE one of the agencies bidding on that freight Bill? Those have to be the cheapest, sorriest SOB's in all of Landstar at least on LSBroker side dry van. Curious what their rates/reputation is from a BCO perspective.

 

When you live in TX on a dirt lot in a 50 year old camper you can run for 1.50/mi.
