If the guy is "asking" $20k why only try to go down $1k? I would check the truck out completely and then offer $17,000 cash money. Work up from there but he should take the $17k. I personally wouldn't pay that for a throw-away freightliner but seems like it has been taken care of so might be a good deal for you. Good luck.

Seems like a good deal. Had a ton of work already done. Too bad it's not Century though. Columbias are girly trucks. Even the name sounds feminine.

Check the differential ratio; is it set up for heavy loads or cruising down the highway? With that engine you could run into mpg problems if your accelerator pedal tends to have to support a heavy foot. Go and Drive The Truck yourself with the owner if necessary; city and highway, 2 lane and freeway and especially the way you plan to use it if possible. LISTEN to it...engine, tranny, diffs with one and 2 axles engaged, A/C,heater, wind noises, brakes...i.e. everything you can think of trying. Can you be reasonably comfortable in it?enough storage space? Best of luck to ya!

ps don't let a vulva owner tell you a freightliner is a throwaway truck...sounds like the pot calling the kettle black and dirty. The engines trannies etc are all the same, just depends how the truck was specked out when ordered.

Oddly enough, I purchased a 388, and a 389 this past year.... I just didn't feel "drawn" to that entire Columbia thing. Odd. :biggrin_2556:

Because they last so long and are so dependable that people hand on to them until there's nothing left of them when they finally wear out.

The Columbia has 3 times the headlights of any round or rectangular sealed beam.

The name likely comes from the river that flows near Portland and the region named after it.

$20 K plus core, is the price of a factory rebuilt S60- 1998 emissions spec. 3 years/ 300,000. Better warranty than you get with a new ISX in a new truck.

The guy has $20 k plus in work done and is hoping to get $20k. The truck was built to be the cheapest company truck available and was built that way. It's the Yugo of trucks.
