I have a suburban, probably better off driving the Pete!

Needless to say his second week he was looking for a trailer
I was thinking the same thing.. I borrowed a jet-ski one wkend.. Rode 30mins and the motor blew.. He expected me to foot the whole bill for the motor that was 8 yrs old and had 160hrs=(1.5mil truck miles). I don' think so......

I'd be scared of that trailer deal too!

    Has Landstar approved you?

If so what you might try is getting recruiting to hook you up with a Landstar BCO that is hiring. That way you can get a feel of the deal and some money before putting your truck on the road. Some of them I've heard give you a fuel card, a truck/trailer and a laptop (for finding the loads) and tell you to hit the road. Long as you are making money they don't care how you run the operation.

Ya but knowing I will quit in a few months I kinda feel bad doing that to a small operation guy ya know.
I'm funny like that, too nice for myown good sometimes.

I need to get ahold of the guy again to see if they aproved it. he told me all they were waiting on was that last employment info request and I know they got it back the day they sent it.

I was supposed to go met a guy this morning. He want me to run a belly dump for him around here. They build roads and platforms for oil rigs. My wife and I kinda figured it wasn't worth going though. It's close to an hour ride each way (can't bring the truck home) and it only pays $13.50hr. By the time I gas the suburban for the week and pay for daycare and lunch there wouldn't be anything left. I was making $16hr at the landfill which was closer and we were bouncing checks weekly. We are broke now but we haven't bounced a check since I've been off work

I hear ya. It might take you more than a couple months to make the start up money you want too. Or give the guy a yr or some thing like that.

I could just kick myself for quiting Landstar. That was the first mistake of several in 07 continuing to now that have probably cost me a good $20,000 to $30,000. Both in real money wasted and unrealized income.

2007 seems to be ripe for bad decisions. I guarantee I am a good30k behind where I would have been if I had stayed where I was. Then again with the winter they have had my wife most likely would have left by now!! or worse,,, she would have stayed!!! lol u know what I mean!

Depending on what I decide to do I only need about 6 grand to get started with landstar. That would be on a shoestring but since you can advance 30% I don't need as much for fuel.
If I decide to do the chips or something I need more for fuel but to be honest I could have this truck running tomarrow. It's a gem compared to most you see around here. Problem is that doesn't really pay well enough to be fixing a whole lot after it is running

I really do not think you need $6000 to start with LS. A friend of mine didn't have enough to fill his fuel tanks past 1/2 when he started with them! Serious.

They'll advance you 30% and if your pay schedule was like mine (it varies depending on the day you are 100% qualified) I got paid on monday for every thing that I had turned in by the previous Wed. The office gals if they were caught would even process on thurs and friday. But those two days were NO guarantees of getting paid. Use trippack and your trip docs will be there over night.

They'll let you rent a trailer from them. Not a long term plan in my opinion. But workable for the short term.

$3000 for tires and $1000 for a fewother things that need to be done. I can do them cheaper myself but if I needed it going NOW that's what it would cost at a shop
