Looking for established authority to buy or run under

There are a few other things at play as to why not now. We will be getting our own authority, just not first thing. We've done all the research and know what to do (without using a service).

LB you're very right and that is what the actual plan is.

 

Hey Gangstagirl80, I know where you and Dirk could come across an aged, inactive authority. ICC/MC number is 527***. It has been inactive for awhile, and the guy will probably come off it for next to nothing. I have to find out about a little detail though. The company name that it was issued under was closed and has an uncollected debt. I don't know if buying that authority and reactivating it can be done without actually buying the company and thus assuming said debt.

If anybody here could answer that, you may have a winner. I have casually researched this issue but havent been able to find an answer. I had considered buying it myself for awhile, but my plans have changed and I'm going a different direction.

 

That would be awesome. I worry too about debts and such. I'm not sure how it works. I wonder if I could call someone and get the answers.....
I have my other worries too, lol, you know me Eskimo. With getting our own authority they are gonna wanna do an audit in the 1st 30 days. We're gonna have to try and get back here to no freight having BFE west Texas, I'm afraid we could lose a lot of money having to deadhead a long way to make the stupid appointment because the only load we can find won't get us back in time, blah,blah,blah.

 

right now with the lack of work many brokers are reqiring 6 months to a year in operation because of the abundance of carriers why take a chance on a unestablised carrier?

if they have the choice between a carrier thats been in buisness 3 months or a carrier thats been in buisness for 10 years who do you think will get the load?

things are much different when its buisy and they have a hard time finding trucks .

they are also worried about double brokering by individuals that get authority to do just that and the freight dissapears , they hurt their reputation and loose the customer and maybe future customers

proof of longevity reduces the chance of that happening it's worth it to pay a couple of thousand bucks to be an established company with a good track record thats why big corps buy other corps instead of starting their own

 

That first educational audit isn't a big deal. They will give you plenty of advanced notice and have been pretty flexible with people on scheduling. I wouldn't sweat that.

The authority that I am reffering to is just sitting on a shelf and the guy never intends to reactivate it. I could get you a sweet deal on it if you/we can figure out the debt issue.

 

How much debt are we talking? And to whom? If it's IRS debt I want no part of anything. I don't care if they say the debt doesn't come with it. I don't like the IRS, they kinda scare me....
I'll do some looking/calling around today and see what I come up with.

This is some thing you need to know because it does not take long for the MC division to just do away with the numbers. Purge the system if you will. I've had 2 different numbers and both went away less than two yrs after I deactivated them.

 

A little over a year. Last I checked it could still be reactivated. Even if it can't, no harm-no foul kind of thing. She would just have to go find a different authority to use, but wouldnt be out of anything.

 

It is commercial debt, and is a significant amount. It is a deficit on 2 repoed trucks. He over extended himself financially when buying the newest truck. After spending all of his cash to buy a truck, he had 2 trucks blow motors and another drop a tranny within 60 days time. That broke his back financially and he couldnt make all of his notes. 2 of the trucks were from the same bank, so they repo'd both of them. One of them had a blown motor ,so I know there would be a substantial deficit owed.

He was somehow able to get notes at that bank without a personal guarantee, so the notes were in the corporations name only. Between these events and another MAJOR event in his personal life, the walls came crumbling down on him and he just took the easy way out and closed the business.

 

Ok, I see. I'm looking now to see who I might be able to call. Do you know if the inactive status is relevant? As in, when a broker pulls the number does it show that it was inactive for X amount of time or only how long the number has existed?
