I guess Uniden thought they should keep up with the Joneses (or at least with Cobra)
The Bearcat 980 is going ot be the only current Uniden CB radio with SSB . It features a large, easy to read illuminated control panel for easy use in all lighting conditions and comes with a newly designed microphone with a ergonomic pistol grip.

Frequency Counter (I'm sure they mean VFO)
Noise canceling mic with extra long cord
4-6 pin adapter available
Channel indicator
Instant channel 9/19
PA/CB switch
Large digital S/RF/CAL/SWR meter
Backlit control knobs/buttons

Hey BM, smoke it if you got it.

At $199 list price I will think long and hard about getting one, though. Still, I like the SSB feature and would like to update my current collection of 20 yr old CB rigs if the price comes down a bit
-
However I'm also not real fold of the styling of the new Unidens, but the 980 does appear to have some cool stuff in one package. If it indeed has the weather channels AND sideband, then I'm almost already sold. -

Wonder if the internals are more like an "export" radio too....
the size, shape and general design kinda looks looks like one..
looks like it finely might be more than a basic cobra 29 with a new faceplate/controlers...a fine foundation, but pretty static for many years.... -
The only one I see listed on the Uniden website is the 505. Any info as to when the others are due out?
-
What they REALLY need to include on new units is the digital signal processing (DSP)
that can be found on newer ham rigs to clean up the received signal.
Much more usefull than a echo or noise maker. -
Here are some pictures of the inside and a preliminary manual

I also seen Walcott has the radio priced at $119 when it comes in.
And here is the optional Bluetooth wireless mic that will be available in 2012Attached Files:
