No Code Question???

So what's the deal with no code? There's no CW requirement for general or extra now?

Off the topic question:

Does anyone own a Yaesu FT-817? What antenna do you recommend? I was going to get a Buddistick w/LRZ-11pro auto tuner. I'm wanting to get into CW/QRP (CW is going slow I should add), and this seems to be the best all around system to get. Any comments are welcomed.

Yes, the code requirement has been dropped altogether. The bands privileges are still different for tech, generals and extras. As a technician you have the same band privileges as the old tech plus did.

As for the ft-817, I cant comment, but I know it is a popular rig for QRP work. Check out ratings on the equipment in question at [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. on the left side of the home page.

I started studying code as I was trying to get my general ticket before the new requirements. I kind of backed away from studying for a while, but my interest is coming back. I have been studying for a few days now... and I am progressing slowly as well. But I will get it done eventually...

I'm using the MFJ-418 CW tutor to learn CW. I keep the setting at 20 wpm but I'm only reading 2 to 3 characters at a time. I'm trying to stay with the Koch method, but I'm not sure I'm doing it exactually right. I will say I'm impressed with the 418. It has a lot great options for learning. It has helped me.

I've read good things about the buddistick and pole. I'll look closer at the website for the instructions. Of course I've read a wire dipole is the best tool for QRP, and that would be a lot cheaper. I was looking at the convience of the buddistick. Antennas are another part of all this I need to get beefed up on.

lenrev? Do you use an autotuner with your buddistick?

Thanks for the replys.

Best bet would be a screwdriver! These will FAR out-perform any tuner/whip combo.
