Wilson gumdrop stud

Anyone have any luck with these?I read on another forum they are junk.I'm hoping that I can use it for my new 10k on my big rig,I purchased a stainless (wilson) stud and I can't even use it because the so-239 connection looks like a drilled allen head screw an my rg-8x wont thread all the way on before the pin bottoms out.

I'm using a Wilson gumdrop mount with a Wilson 5000 antenna. Whether or not it makes any difference compared to other gumdrop mounts I can't say. I know if you use a heavy duty mount of any kind with a heavy antenna you are not likely to have it break or bend in areas were over hanging trees are a major problem. Other wise the best I can say is that it matches the looks of my antenna well.

Take off that gumdrop mount if you have one. I just started having grounding problems and tracked it down to the gumdrop mount (the black rubber ones). the symptoms were I would start getting the high SWR reading warning infrequently from my radio. Then when I would check the SWRs with a meter it would show excellent SWRs and the next minute the readings went off the meter!. Anyway I tore everything apart, moved the antenna, changed the cable, took the antenna apart looking for signs of cracks or any damage leading to an improper ground, checked the battery for loose cables, etc.. etc.. . As you may have guessed the last thing I thought of checking was the new gumdrop mount I had on for less then a month before it started happening. Having the high SWR warning light saved me from possibly damaging my radio. If you take one of the rubber mounts apart you can see how it could happen and I'm sure I could figure an easy way of correcting it and not have it look cheesy, but for now it sits in my container of extra trucker thingys.
