    Depends on what you want.

If you want a basic AM CB radio start off with a Cobra 25 LTD or a Uniden PC68.

If you want SSB then look into a Cobra 148 GTL or a Uniden Grant.

If you want access to the ham bands look into an export. Be advised unlicensed folks can't xmit on the ham bands.

    Trucker1988 Thanks this.

Turbo-T is talking about the so-called "10 Meter" radios that are in SOME truck stops and CB shops. They are against the law to use on CB because they are not certified for that use. The easiest way to tell if it is an illegal radio is if it has "band" switches labeled A-B-C-D-E-F and so on. There ARE no additional "bands" in CB radio. Once modified to operate on CB, those "band" switches can permit an operator, thinking he has "extra" channels, to stray into the licensed ham bands. The hams WILL TRACK YOU AND TURN YOU OVER TO FCC'S SPECIAL COUNSEL FOR AMATEUR RADIO. YOU WILL RECEIVE A WARNING LETTER (OR YOUR COMPANY WILL) FOR THE FIRST OFFENSE. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT AGAIN, THEN IT GOES TO THE PROSECUTION STAGE. Most companies get the hint pretty quick and have the radios jerked OUT of their trucks once "pinched"!:yes2557:

Just a bit of advice on the "10 Meter" radios; a Cobra 29 will do nicely!!!!

I know you dont like them "extra channeled radios" so what would you rather a driver to have. A completely stock 10 meter radio that has been converted to operate on the CB band but not peaked out or a fully modified Cobra 29 with every kind of upgrade other than extra channels?

The Cobra 29. All those "mods" are actually unnecessary and mainly do one thing: move money from your pocket into that of crooked CB shops. People have been taught that CB radios MUST be tinkered with (peak and "tune") in order to work right. Many times those so-called technicians (yeah, right!) do more harm than good what with all the snip and clip that, turn this and that. How come other radio services can buy radios, and except for putting in the proper frequencies (police, fire, rescue, etc) the equipment is put right on the air with-OUT all that snip this, clip that? How come hams buy new Kenwoods, take 'em out of the box, install them, and start talking? There's NO 'Peaking and tuning', snipping and clipping stuff. But with CB radios, everybody is convinced that the radio has to be worked on before the mike is ever keyed? Who convinced them of that? The shops who get $$$$$$$$ from uninformed customers. CB radio is the ONLY group of users where this occurs! Do you buy a new CAR and WORK on it to get it to start? Do you "peak and tune" a washing machine before you can wash a load of clothes? How fast would you be telling Lowes to come get their piece of junk? :biggrin_2559:

The "10 Meter" radios are illegal and unnecessary. Sure, SOME drivers will never stray onto 'them extra channels', but far too many just cannot resist the temptation to go on those "channels" they think are quiet and OK for them to use.

Cobra 29 is fine and has NO need to be "modified" anyway.

Well then I'm glad Sparky will sell me the radio for about what any other shop would and not charge extra for the peak n tune.
