| I just got a Cricket USB "modem"... cost about $150 after rebate and runs $40 a month (plus $2.00 tax)... no contract... $25 activation fee.... Works like a charm (except get a little slow in the afternoon).. I'm on it right now... Don't know about the coverage, though YMMV

| The cricket data plan looks great for local usage where it's available. Coverage is very limited and for OTR purposes it doesn't seem sufficient. There is a 5gb/month limit that affects webcam and other continuous feeds too. ___________________________ ________ ___________________Quote:

| I'm using the new Sprint 597E air card...it's a pcm card that uses the express slot instead of USB port...works great and have been real happy with it...59.95 a month unlimited...it also doubles as a GPS transponder. I haven't gotten my first bill yet...so can't tell you if there are other charges with it. |

| What geograchic range do you use it with ? Or local? I would like to know how well the Sprint network stands up. Others have posted but more info is appreciated from all. Thanks -cj Quote:

If needed (at least I think it will work with data cards) I think you can use a service like Skype or Yahoo Voice/Messenger to make phone calls through your laptop. Skype also has bluetooth capability so you don't have to be tied down with a head set plugged into your computer. (although a microphone and speakers works too) They have live video calls with Skype while on the road and a mobile Skype which I am not sure how, yet, that differs from a cell phone plan. O.K. so I decided to check and quickly found some info to copy. Netgear WiFi Phone NETGEAR’s WiFi Phone (SPH200W-100NAS) with Skype lets you make and receive Skype calls wherever you have WiFi access without a PC and with no monthly fees. What WILL they think of next!! Let me know where to get the Garmin/T.V./Radio/Cell phone/internet. I thought I found something along those lines when I was comparing GPS nav.

| I have had Sprint for years now both data a phone service. Most don't realize that with just about all of there plans, including data, when you are not on their network you are on Verizon's.... Only difference is the pricing and terms (unlimited use with Sprint). With this Clearwire deal going on now with Sprint, data should even get better. |

| Actually, most of the time I'm roaming it's going to be on Alltel, and certainly anywhere I'm able to EVDO roam. I've had no problems connecting to Alltel EVDO with my Sprint card, but have yet to get on Verizon's EVDO with my Sprint card. To the original question, I have two Sprint cards. One at home (The PX-500) and one I'm using now (Novatel U720) and they both work great. The PX-500 seems better at simultaneously uploading and downloading, but the U720 gets better latency. The PX-500 also seems to get better signal, but the U720 seems to be able to do better with a lower signal. |
