going to central in octber - Truckers' Trucking Forum

Well gang looks like I will be going to salt lake around mid to late Oct. I have read a lot of post on this company as well as others . What I need to know is what type of weather should I expect so I may bring the right attire. And I would really welcome any comments on what to look for in preparing for whats ahead(work well,living conditions,sleeping bag vs.sheet blanket etc.) I am looking forward to the challanges of trucking as well as the rewards. I plan on company driving at least 2yrs. if I am able to pick my rig what brands do you guys recommend? Humbly submitted Big Dog 1

Cash I would try for $100 a week for the time you will be in school and training.

Sleeping bag
Fitted twin sheet
Pillow
Toiletries(including wet-wipes)

1 weeks worth of cloths; 3-5 pair of pants, 2-3 pair of shorts, and 7-10 shirts, enough for 7 days.

Atleast a light jacket, maybe heavy sweatshirt or flannel. If attending school there too, I would have a winter coat of some sort, walmart sells carhhartt ripoffs for $30, pretty warm.

Cheap leather work gloves for hooking trailers.

Laptop if you have one, could buy a good Dell Inspiron 4150 on ebay, or a dell lattitude c840 for around $150, I have both, and they are older but last in the truck.(small 200w inverter too)

Composition notebook, for recording mileages and load information, this helps you keep track of your pay.

Allot of patience, and a little luck. I would say 70% dont make it through a year at central.

Central mostly runs Volvo 670s. Which is an excellent truck for a new driver because they have excellent visibility and have a very tight turning radius.

Even if you had the choice I would definately not recommend a classic truck like a W9 or Coronado for a new driver.

Stop on by the Central Ref. Truckstop thread in the Discuss your favorite trucking company category. There is alot of Active truckers and handful of newbies that are heading off to school later this month and early Oct. I'm heading off to Riverside/Fontana in Oct 5th, looking forward to starting up. Any suggestion on savig money when out driving over the road? What appliances are worth their price to purchase and what brands should be avoided all together?

What advise do you offer to a prospective trucker to help them jump into the 30 % successful category? Thanks for the time and any information now that helps me out down the line is really appreciated.

big enough to hold your cloths, I was fond on those green military duffel bags.

as for saving money, once you are setup, buy a cooler, $60-100, and then buy in Bulk. There are plenty of Wal-marts you can get into on the road, as well as other supermarkets. Buy water or drinks by the case, buy lunchmeat and bread for sandwiches.

I bought a 12v frypan to heat up soup and other things, I lined it with simple tin foil to ease cleanup. Also if you will have a small 200-400w plug in inverter you can buy a small crockpot, like soup sized.
