| Hey countryboy, what are you looking to find out? It sounds like things are getting better for them lately. I'll PM you some stuff. |

| Con Way LTL Thanks lazow1md! They have an add in the Springfield MO paper for LTL drivers, said starting pay is 17.81 per hr. I was wondering what the pay scale was like. How are the Sterling trucks to drive, how new are they, are they well maintaned. I think you said that they have a lot of rules which doesn't bother me as long as I know them up front. I've heard that new drivers will drive fill in positions which might mean odd hours and thats ok, you have to start somewhere. Any info would be appreciated! |

K.. I'll tell you what I know.. Forget the trucks, they will be of minor concern after you see what this place is all about. To answer your question though, Sterlings are junk, the age and maintenance varies by location, but they get the job done. I typically run an 06 every night now and it does the job. If it is available, there is an 04 I run because it runs like it does not say Con-way on the side. I run a good deal of Pa 2 lane with a set so I want something that pulls. As far as maintenance, it really varies by location but they are doing a better job after the outrage about the old units on the longest runs - that has kinda changed also because we are booming and short on power units. Believe me, the trucks will be your last worry. As far as pay, Con-way will pay the bills. I forget all the scales but top-rate is now .527 and 22.37 - was .555 and 23.55 which I think we will get back by the end of the year and then some. The way we are gaining market share and the stock price continuing to rise, IMO they will have no option but to return the 5% and a raise on top of that. I'm single so I don't know much about the medical but hear it is still much better than most. I'm glad you're OK with unpredictable hours - that is what you will have. I'm 1000 miles away so I have no idea what type of terminal XSJ is as far as day line-haul, re-ship, 2-day freight, and the size of the P&D operation but the more the better on all accounts. If your terminal is big they typically split the extra board into day and night giving you some predictability. On a 1-10 I rate the job an 8. More BS than there should be but I run the same PM line run every night, good bennies for me, the company will be around, and I'll make 80K this year on a shorter PM line-haul run. That said, I started here at 22 and could not imagine being in that spot later on in life - it was hard enough then. Good luck man.. Keep the ?'s coming and I'll tell you what I know.. |

| Thank you jakebrake12! That info was very good! I don't know how big the terminal is in Marshfield, MO, it is right off of I-44. They are hiring drivers here, not sure how many, I sent my resume in last week. Thanks again. I'm sure I will think of more questions but I gotta go for now. |

| That one is kind of small. I had a delivery there about 5 months ago and its one of the smaller terminals I have been to. If I had to guess it had maybe 40 bay doors and the yard was TINY! |

With our operation that does not mean all that much believe it or not. For any Truckload drivers that have been to New Columbia, Pa (Milton), that is a huge terminal but has about 20% of the work and drivers that my 50ish door terminal has. One night operation I can think of had like 55 doors and 90 drivers (180 trailers) running it nightly. Carlstadt, NJ wins the tightest yard of them all title. Again, that may not mean much. Carlstadt is an important night operation for the tri-state metro terminals. Springfield, Mo could fit into that category. That would seem like a central location that might be able to link some two-day freight through day and night line-haul runs. |

| Students So obviously Con Way hires students then? I live in the midwest, Quincy Il. Thats about 5-6 hours from joplin so 1st off sounds like I'm in a good place to work for them, being they not that far away, correct? 2nd I'm graduating in a few weeks so would I be able to get regional runs? How's the home time & whats the orientation & training like, how long what's the pay like etc. Any info would be a great help guys. |
