Swift is a good company if you are wiling to abide by their game. Every company does have its down falls and you will hear about it from time to time. I have a friend who drives in the NY area for them and loves it.

I have a flat screen in my truck. I make my money in the truck. Never made a cent in the terminal. I am more concerned about how the company treats me and how hard I have to work to make the money. Cents per mile not nice terminals pay the bills. I am happy that he likes working for Swift. Everyone has their place.

well dont get me wrong - I recognize the usefulness and joy a nice terminal brings OTR drivers - I just think they need to put more effort into polishing their drivers and work on career developement and skills.

I never worked for Swift - but it is good for new drivers to have a company willing to forgive them for "growing pain" accidents and allow them to keep on working after a few bumps and bruises.

I'm starting Swift's orientation and training in Lewiston, ID tomorrow. I gather their training isn't the best. I don't want to be one of the bad drivers frequently mentioned here. What kind of stuff do they gloss over that I should watch out for? What will the training be like? Is there a lot of class time or is it mostly practice?

If I did freak and decide to bail, when is it too late to avoid owing them for training?

Who's judging? I started with Swift (my first trucking job ever) this past June and as of this moment, have NO intentions of leaving. I trained on a JIT account adn when my training was up, after only a month OTR, I was accepted to another JIT account. Now I'm home every night and make well over twice as much/week as I did OTR. So I'm happy with Swift. Now.

So far, I'm more than satisfied. From what I've heard with Swift OTR people, I'm glad I'm where I'm at. And as long as my income at least stays where it is (or goes up), I'll stick it out. I like to think that a job is only what you put into it. I know that's not always the case, but until something happens to me personally, I can only live by that credo.

Swift

You can tell Quickdodge has been paying attention. You have learned a lot and made some very wise decisions. Swift sounds like a good company and I will have to recalculate my opinion about them. I HAD shut them down when I ran with a recruiter on I-76 the other day and thought that what he was telling me was blowing sunshine, but maybe he wasn't making it up. What? A recruiter that actually might not be lying? Good thing I was already sitting down so I didn't pass out.
