I really wanted to know about top speed just in case you ever needed it. I've found that going slower is much less stressful. I let everyone pass me. I worked for an LTL carrier for 8 years that governed their trucks at 72 - 75 and you were constantly battling four wheelers. You pass them, they pass you, etc. Then I went to work for another LTL that governed at 62 - 65. Lot less stress, of course you couldn't turn some of the runs the previous company would in the 11 hours, but the pay much more than made up for it. I run team now and jumping from a terrible 5.5 to around 7 saves enough a month to make the truck and trailer payment.

Herkyboy, guess I must be confused. You gave an honest telling of how it went with the shop and am not sure how that was dissing JCT. All info, honetly given, should be appreciated and I thank you for the telling. Like has been said earlier, all companies have their problems and quirks and I'm glad to hear about it myself.

TO ALL THE JCT CREW: Went back and read most all pre posts again! Conclusion: very very informative...most all positive...you all seem to give freely of settlement info...seem willing to help after one leases on...most everyone seems to be happy...willing to laugh,cut-up, joke with one another...very few threads, if any,are as good as this...only negatives seem to be hometime and maybe the shop...money helps hometime situation and you don't have to use the shop!! will call HOLLY in a.m. & submit app. omg long winded! sounds like who! please 4give this time

I agree with Jarbo about not wanting to turn this thread negative. It is still, by far, the best company out here, and I have no intention of leaving any time soon. That said, here is what happened to me recently:

Traded up to a Prostar. My maintenence acct had over $3,500 in it. I had kept up on every maintenance issue that came up. All PM's were done EARLY. I did have a "bad" steer tire that I knew would need to be replaced. On top of that, 3 days before I traded out of the W900, the tilt steering wheel cable snapped. (Just my luck! At least it was down in a usable place, and not up!)

Now here is where it gets interesting! Mike Neal told me when I signed for the new truck that I may as well kiss my excrow acct goodbye. I thought I knew better! Heck, there was nothing wrong with the truck, I just don't care for W9's. I had even had a PM done just 4500 miles prior, so that was still good to go! So, I'm thinking sterring wheel cable, and new tire. I can go for that.

I did the pre lease for the new truck at the same time Delbert was doing the post lease on my old truck. SIDE BY SIDE. We were with each other the whole time. Not much of anything is going to get by Delbert. He has been doing this for quite some time and knows what to look for. He did find the steering wheel cable and did write up the steer tire. He also measured all tread depth on the other 9 tires, and noted them on an inspection sheet. He verified the APU was working, and signed off on the sheet stating as much.

I went upstairs to see Royce, and we went over both inspection sheets for both trucks. I signed a sheet stating that I would be responsible for $10.15 per 32nd rubber off the tires. Fair. As long as it was not a new tire in all positions. (remember, I knew I needed to buy one steer). An average of 3/32 was worn off of all tires. Okay. 3x9=27x 10.15=274.05. I can live with that.

I got the shock of a lifetime when I saw my maintenance account had dropped from well over $3500, to -$800.00. Yes that is in the NEGATIVE. HOLY ####, what happened here!

Call Royce, and leave a message on voice mail for him. He sends me a QC message that he was going to look into it. almost 2weeks later, I call him again, and the telephone tag starts! He asked for a $2000.00 adjustment, but only got $1700.00 approved. Okay, I will live with that. Not too happy, but not worth creating a big stink over. I will make it up.

2 days after I get the credit, I get a call from my wife asking what work I had gotten done to my truck. Nothing. It's new. Nothing is needed yet. "ok, than what is the charge for $1665.00?" Oh great, she found out about my mistress! Not really! I have no idea, but I will call and find out.

Finally get in touch with Royce (VERY BUSY MAN, there) I find out it was an outside vendor work order. The APU did not work, and they sent it to ThermoKing for repair. Relay board was "no good" and replaced. Over $1100.+ for the parts and almost 500.00 for LABOR???????

BUT....the APU worked when I traded out of the truck, as VERIFIED by Delbert! "well, it was found to be not working while it was still on the yard. No other driver had touched it, and it doesn't work, so it gets charged back to you". After some haggling, I made the offer to split it with him (Royce) and he agreed. Then I got the paperwork no one wanted me to see! The truck HAD been assigned to another driver, and it had 21 more hours on it that it did when I turned it in. That is a pretty good amount of time for an APU. But, I was told it did not work at all!

So... I get a $1700 credit, and then a bill for almost the same amount for something that was working when I gave it back!

Now, on to the "new truck" I was told it needed an alignment. That was why I was getting different tires on the rear axle on the right side. Delbert pointed this out to me, and told me to ask for the alignment when I went upstairs. I asked, and was told it would be taken care of. It wasn't, and when I called Delbert, he told me that next time I was in the shop, it would be performed. He even sent me 2 QC messages about it! Okay...they are going to take care of it! I'm stoked again. Wrong! My "free alignment" cost me $241.00, not open for discussion. End of story.

Am I happy about it? No. Am I going to quit over it...No. Will I refer someone to come and work for JCT? Yes, I will. As I said many times, I think this is a great company, but just don't care for the way the shop operates. I will avoid using them as much as possible, but will keep racking up the miles, and replacing the money into my maintenance account. It is not the end of the world.

Sorry it's so long, Jarbo, buddy! There is no way to tell the story any more condensed! You asleep yet!!!!

well,,, finally we see the real deal,,,and you know what? still seems like a good deal overall, if they just mess around with the escrow, who really cares? just count it out as the cost of doing business,this is not anywhere near the horror stories you find at other companies, still very much looking forward to climbing aboard soon, one employer drug their feet getting my history to jennifer so i lost my jan 4th class,now all set for jan 18, also,has anyone set themselves up as an LLC? can u do that as a leesee

You do not need to set up an LLC. The best way is to go sole proprieter,and file under your SS#. You can check with your accountant. You can do it with a lease, you are still considered a small business. It you do not have any other businesses, I think the best way is to sign upwith ATBS durring orientation. They have settlement deduction, and will give you a periodic P&L. I would still keep all your reciepts, just in case of an audit.
