Does anyone have info on pc*miler gps

I like my Garmin Nuvi. As far as the PC Miler unit, know idea. The one thing I can see that might be worth the extra cash outlay is the truck stop listings. But I can do that on the cb for free. Other than that, nothing there that would make me want to buy one. Even the low bridge truck route info isn't worth it to me. The only place I really go where there are clearance problems is Chicago, and I know my way around there and can read the signs.

Remember, the GPS is just another tool in our arsenal. Common sense should be our main guide, if you get my drift. Don't be like the guy that followed his GPS right into a lake because it said to.

If you have the money, buy one and let us know how it works. You can always return it. I think it is a bit pricey for what it does, as most often we are in truck friendly environments. I normally turn mine off or ignore it when in a big city as they can get you into trouble real fast. They are not 100% accurate by any stretch.

I use a TomTom and it works great for me. I use that in conjunction with my truckers atlas, I compare the route the GPS gives me to my atlas and then go from there.

Like others said use common sense. Sometimes mine will tell me to turn on a road I know I should not be down in that case I will keep going and find a more suitable road. After that the GPS reroutes itself and I go from there.

 

Garmin GPS is not made for trucks neither other brand, pc miller is made for trucks it I havent try it but as far as I know the only GPS made for trucks are Copilot, Pc miller which is power by copilot, and WorlNav
Any other GPS are made for cars, motorcycles, and some comes with SUB which is Pick up trucks or light trucks...

 

If you take the time to read old post within this forum. You'll find that PC Miler has resulted in some tickets being issued for "no trucks" routing.

If I'm going to fly by the seat of my pants. I'd rather do it for $200, than $300-$600

My "non truck specific" Garmin does the job just fine.

 

You right any GPS can give you the wrong direction you just need to know how to use it and watch where the gps is sending you before you follow it..

 

We bought the PCmiler GPS at Petro truckstop. It is cumbersome to operate. You have to exit the gps function to use the music player. I like to play my music files using the headset so as not to disturb my team mate in the sleeper. I could live with the lack of user friendly interface. What I can not live with is the errors in the device.
STRIKE 1
On our first HAZMAT load it routed us through downtown Columbus Ohio. It should have sent us around Columbus using I270.
STRIKE 2
We were on our way to a delivery in Hanover MD we were routed down a road that was not wide enough for us and ultimately led to a 11 foot underpass. Not fun backing out of this one.
STRIKE 3
We were headed to Hawian Bread in Torrance CA got off freeway and then made multiple turns and cricles until we reached the address. It got us there but we were traveling in circles. Hawian Bread is only two blocks from freeway.
We returned unit to Petro and they refunded our money. Petro has integrity!
