Lets keep this in perspective and deal with facts....... In all my years I've never seen a red n purple Fedex doing anything wrong. ( The union guys )
Always see them putting around or hanging at the t.s. on a relay.......

    ON THE OTHER HAND

The green logo guys are contractors and cheap ones too, them I see flying like jets, in the ditches and doing stupid stuff....which means you get what you pay for.

Cheap = .32 for doubles as advertised in the local paper.

Hello, You sound like the person I need to talk to.I am currently considering Roadmasters school to achieve my Class A.I really want to work for FedEx.This is a known company and by known I mean really good company to work for.I am currently seeking my pilots license ,and hope to build a solid career with FedEx.My question is should I go with roadmasters? Or apply for the loading dock job,and go from there. My first course of action I would think would be to do Roadmasters, then go for FedEx.However I truly am a rookie and will listen to what advice you may have to offer.

I am a FedEx Ground city driver (yeah, one of the "green logo guys" you speak so poorly of) and I can tell you that I get paid well for my efforts. I also know for a FACT that the other drivers at our terminal (both city and line haul) get paid very well.

Just because crap rates are in YOUR local paper doesn't mean that's how it is everywhere.

WOW...talk about mis-informed CB trash talkin BS!!! This thread is full of it!!
First off..Fedex FREIGHT trucks are governed at 65mph, so if they're speeding, it's in a 55 zone with all the other governed trucks. On the other hand, there aren't a whole lot of governed GROUND trucks, they are contractors. Somebody mentioned Fedex being union..NOT TRUE. If you see a union Fedex guy, your flying above 10k feet, as only pilots are union for fedex EXPRESS.
The only interaction these different divisions have is, they share a paint scheme on Denny Hamlins race car once in awhile. So, get your facts straight before talking BS next time. Ignore the Fedex part of the truck, notice the second name FREIGHT, GROUND, EXPRESS, CRITICAL..ETC when you comment.
The safety records are on the CSA website, just like everybody elses to see, just make sure you type in the SECOND part of the name, as that is the part that matters.
As for the OP's question, look on the Fedex FREIGHT jobs board and you will see what terminals are hiring for "driver apprentrice." It's usually a hub terminal but, that doesn't mean you can't start as a dockworker and then get trained as a driver eventually. You'll still make more money on a forklift than going to some company that puts you in a truck with a 6month driver trainer living in truckstops. And you'll be home every night/day.

Ok, here is the deal. if you do not qualify to be hired as a driver for FedEx Freight you may apply as a Driver Apprentice. You must apply online at FedEx.com to a posted available position at a location you wish to work at. I recomend you get Hostler Certified ASAP to develop backing skills. You will work full-time on the dock or hoslte until you enter the Driver Develpoment Course. The first part of the DDC is to complete a computer based eduction course. After that you will be assigned to work with an instructor at a Center that has one. This is usually for two weeks if you pass the required standards. After that you return to your center and work a week with a road coach, than a week with a city coach. After passing the course you will go for your state CDL Test and complete a New Driver Road Test for FedEX Freight, than you will be transfered to City Driver Status. You may transfer to the Road after 6 months if you wish and there is a position available.
This is a great program for people wanting a career.
As for drivers at FedEx, all companies have good and bad drivers. FedEx just has alot of drivers on the road compared to other companies. You can interview, test, and teach drivers, but it's up to that indivual if they chose to be a safe driver or not.
