It is hard to tell if they are actually including Insite or not. For that price, I say no. What you have there is basically just the interface box that would plug into your truck, and also into a laptop or computer. "Inline 5" is just the interface. Basically you can't do anything with it by itself. You still need a laptop and "Insite" software installed on the laptop. "Insite" is the computer program on the laptop you would use look at the ECM, clear codes, parameters and so on. You need the "Inline 5" interface box so the laptop can communicate with the ECM. There are different versions of Insite. Basic and Pro are the ones I know of. We use Pro so we can do everything. We don't use Basic, but I know it can't do much other than read only. If you want to change parameters or clear codes you need something higher than basic. We pay about $600 per year, per laptop for our Insite subscription. (I think). It isn't cheap, certainly not free. That link for Insite 7.6 just takes you the Cummins site. From there they direct you to your nearest Cummins dealer. I will ask tomorrow how much the different levels of Insite cost and how to get them.

Thanks Heavyd, That is getting expensive!
I actually have a version of insite but it was a hacked copy so i never installed it on the laptop.
It may very well be a useless copy if it connects to Cummins website.

As far as I know, the program doesn't connect. If it does, it is just for program updates. Our pro versions expire every year. The program watches the date. When they are expired we have to call up Cummins with a purchase order and they will give us a new activation code.

Insite is soon going to be required to log on the web every so often for licensing. Caterpillar just started doing it with ET here. We just renewed both here for us and I know it's not cheap. You got to do what you got to do.

Heavyd and EZ Money Thank this.

Ok, here is the deal... This pricing is US, retail straight from Cummins. Cummins distributors may charge less. Insite Program is $399.59. This gets you just the program. Once you install it, it is useless until you get it "activated". The program will not function until you enter the activation password. A one year subscription is $627. Local Cummins dealers may charge less. So you are looking at about $1200 just for software, then add your interface box, (Inline 6), plus a regular laptop.

I guess if you're looking for a tax write-off it would be a good investment, but I think it is over-kill for one guy to own and use just for him self. The main reason why it is so expensive is because it is meant to diagnose and troubleshoot, and therefore make you money.
