There are more Americans working today then at any time in our history. Our population in 1980 was 226 million, 248 million in 1990, and around 305 million today. Our per capita GPD in 2000 was around $32,000, today it is $46,000.

You can't blame government policies for the choices made by U.S. consumers. Nothing would get imported if we did not buy it.

Cheaper, or more expensive costs don't really matter if you are going to spend more than you earn. Americans bought too much stuff, bought houses they didn't deserve to be in and used to credit to do it.

    So higher prices is better?

People keep referring to "large Corporations" like they are a big evil being. Corporations, large or small are made up of taxpayers. Shareholders in "large corporations" are American citizens who have chosen to invest their excess capital in a business, that is not evil. Wal Mart, the largest of the large, is responsible for saving the U.S. consumer in excess of $20 billion per year.

Mooney-not picking on you,but you sound like a politician!! As to Americans owning homes they do not deserve---that is a little harsh,,, America's housing industry is based on credit to purchase the homes, and most homebuyers did have to qualify to obtain financing. Yes, our lending institutions got sloppy in their guidelines, i don't disagree with you there. Illegal aliens got loans in my area with "metricular consular" identification cards, refinanced after 1 year(70k-125k gain) and ran back to Mexico, adding another foreclosure to the neighborhood. These were only a small handfull of the foreclosures, but added to the rest of the foreclosures-it impacted values. Your statement on imports is correct in the sense of-if we don't buy it,then they don't export it here. Here lies the problem, the US has labor standards and regulations that protect the worker from unsafe, unfair conditions--these countries are not held up to the same standards in some instances(clothing for example). How can the US clothing manufacturers compete? Usually by outsourcing productions to countries where labor is cheaper,as many have done. You also mention that people attack large corporations as evil,,no,people attack the large companies because they hurt small business. Now, getting back to the trucking aspect-kinda where we belong-even though you are not a driver----Did you know that the Mexican trucks will not be held to our emissions standards here in California, while I must retrofit my 2005 by 2011,and retire my driver's 2002 by 2013? This is what we mean by a level playing field, right now it is not. Mexico was 20 years behind the US regarding unleaded gasoline in their cars, and their trucks are not mandated by the EPA to meet US standards. Although the Mexican trucking firms, did in fact buy some new trucks to engage in the cross-border demostation project,no provision was made requiring ALL mexican trucks to meet ULSD emission standards as ours do. In California, the trucks in your fleet must pass an opacity test to operate, mexican trucks do not. As to the new CARB regs, I have yet to see any requirements imposed on mexican carriers, yet all US carriers will have to comply to travel in California. This is where policymakers are to blame,,they'll tout the potential savings to american consumers-but they ALWAYS ignore critical details such as this.

I think the facts back me up.

People lying on a mortgage app they did not read is fraud.

That doesn't explain sky-rocketing foreclosure rates in states like Michigan, which has a small immigrant population as a percentage of the total population

So your answer is to impose U.S. standards on other countries? I'm guessing many of the folks who make our Nikes in China prefer that work, which actually pays a wage, low as it may be, to slogging around the rice paddy.
Again, a U.S. company is not in business to employ U.S. workers and pay them what that worker deems a fair wage. The business tries to get their product to market for the lowest possible price.
If you disagree with their methods, do not buy their product.

What makes a small business more important than a large one? If they can't compete with a competitor, no matter the size, they shouldn't exist.

Is this the fault of the Mexican truckers? no. Do U.S. trucks that run south east regional routes have to comply with CARB? no. Holding ALL Mexican trucks to the standards of California, even if they don't run there, is just a ploy.
And finally, most of the participants in the Cross border program are running equipment no different than U.S. truckers. The trucks that shuttle back and forth across the border are the real pollution culprits.

Can't blame the truckers for that.

All of this just boils down to money, the companies want to make enough to satisfy shareholders, people want to get the best prices they can so that sends manufacturing off to where they dont have as many regs, taxes.

Mooney,it has been a pleasure debating you,,,are you following the AIG hearings,,,caught some of it while eating bfast,,,,backpedalling, sidestepping the issues, just gotta love those large corporations defending their actions and the politicitians claiming they had no idea what was happening,,,yet the Libs mandated the sub-prime loans be available to borrowers back when they de-regulated the mortgage industry. When AIG was asked if they would have given millions in bonuses had they NOT recieved bailout funding, their answer was NO. Yes i know, this post belongs elsewhere on this forum.

The issues over Mexican trucks are but a smoke screen to the real issues.:yes2557: While Obama stops the Mexicam trucks he will give amnesty to all the illegals! And open the borders!:biggrin_2551:

While we all argue and fight, those with real power are moving forward with their plans for us.:yes2557: They want us to hate eachother! They want us to argue and fight!:yes2557: Because it distracts us from what is really going on!:biggrin_2555:

Think not? Who controls our government? Who owns our politicians? :biggrin_25511:Who owns and controls most all the media, news, entertainment and information in the world?:biggrin_25511: Who is actually writing the laws?:biggrin_25511:Why do we have camaras on every corner in America? :biggrin_25511:Why is our government selling out America with trade deals they know will hurt the country?:biggrin_25511:

Guess what kiddies, we are living in a Fascist country:biggrin_2551: For and by the Power Elites, Indutrial Titans, and the politicians of both parties. And they used our apathy, ignorance, laziness, and the purist form of capitalism possible to do it.:biggrin_2553:

That's right! If you have been watching the news. They have been floating this idea for the past few months to test the waters.:yes2557: They want the sheeple to get used to the idea. But it's already been decided or the news would not be talking about it. REMEMBER WHO OWNS THE MEDIA?:biggrin_25511:

The Global agenda is being accelerated at warp speed by Obama. But make no mistake he's doing what he is told.:yes2557: Have you guys noticed that there is no talk of ending these free trade deals and bringing the jobs back here.:biggrin_25512:

Intead they are funding the Transnational Corridor, The NAFTA Corridor and building new huge port facilities in Mexico! And most of you think I'm just a conspiracy nut!:biggrin_2552:

Oh! Mooney, Mooney, Mooeny!:biggrin_2552: Let's just understand a few things. Companies don't sell things cheap to do us a favor.:biggrin_25512: They set prices at what the market will bear.:yes2557: As Americans have been making less money, the prices have had to come down some to move product.:yes2557:

George Washington said it best... Make no long term entaglements.:yes2557: I'm sure he would agree that these trade deals fit that desciption.:yes2557: Especially since the Revolution was more about manufacturing and getting out from under the British Central Bank , than tea and taxes!:yes2557: We are back to where we were under the English, except now it's the Chinese... OH! I FORGOT! THE COMMUNIST CHINESE!:biggrin_2552:

We do not need trade deals that put our people out of work. Competition can exsist right here in America. So long as there are multiple companies or brands of that product!:yes2557:

Those companies left this country because they are greedy and disloyal! They want to have an army of slaves and be able to dump toxic waste in the rivers and in the ground. :yes2557:They did that here and killed hundreds of thousands of people. :biggrin_25516: I remember all the families that lived near me had members with cancer. When I was kid. Are our taxes too high? Yes but that can be taken care of.Do we need to fix some things here? Yes! But there are profitable companies doing business here!:yes2557:

Fair trade I'm all for! Free trade is just slavery!:biggrin_25510:

When I was a kid we were taught that if you went to work, did a good job, You could make it in America.:yes2557:Now all the plants are gone. we are flooded by illegal workers. Which I know Mexican trucker is in favor of. You call up customer service and you get sonone in India:biggrin_2551:

So here is my question... What the h%$# do we study for? If they are outsourcing the jobs?:biggrin_2552: I can go to school to design robots. But if they move the robot factory to China and use Indian engineers.... In Mooeny's world I'm just SOL!:biggrin_2552:

Hey Mooney dose national sovereignty enter into your thinking at all?:biggrin_25511:
