Ok starting this thread to monitor my journey before, during, and after training!
Im 21yrs old and everyone says im to young to be a "trucker" lol great motivation for me!
So im getting into the trucking scene... I know very little about it. Ive been reading on here and learning a lot thoMy dad told me about the Millis school so i started looking into. I read stuff on here about them for about 4 days before i made an account. I really havent looked into any other company because from what ive read about Millis it is a great company and it has met all my wants. Seems like a great company and the best for a new driver like myself. So i filled out my online app. and i got a call 20 mins later. Alice needed me to send in my last three years w2s since i have been working for family. Sent those in and Alice called me again to let me know my app has been accepted. Told her i would call her back to give my $100 to reserve my spot.
Went and got my DOT physical 2 days ago it was freakin $60 lol and stopped by the DMV and picked up the Commercial Drivers Manual to start studying for my permit. Ive been reading this horrible thing for 2 days now off and on bout done with round one of reading it. Im not going back and reading the WHOLE thing again no way. Im just going to read the Air Brakes and Pre-Trip parts again and then taking the test! hopefully i can get that done tonight so i can go take the test tomorrow. If not ill go take it Tuesday.
Just got off the phone with Alice bout 15 mins ago. Put my $100 on the class and left her a message to call me back because i have a couple questions about whats next and driving there and etc.
The learners test is $35 so when school starts ill have $595 in this career. But off to read this BORING ##### book some more(im a slow reader too.. makes it even worse lol)
Oh and a budy of mine got the call that his app was accepted as well. So hopefully he can get the money and go threw the class with me!

Welcome to the thread mellonhs. Ive also been told like you that I'm to young to be Truckin (23 years old). My opinion is just ignore the truckers who tell you this. Millis's school is top notch and judging by your location I'm guessing your going to school in Cartersville. Greg the instructor there is quite the character, but is one of he best you will find. Being young and new is actually a advantage because you will be taught the right way the first time and have no bad habits to break. Again welcome, and if you have any questions there's tons of guys on here that are more than happy to help.

How long have you been with millis? -
Yes you can drive home each night after school if you want. Thats what I did, you don't pay for a hotel that way, but you do have the gas cost. I think it was worth it to sleep in my own bed and have real food each night.

Glad to see that you have started a thread. I hope you know that you will have more questions on the general part then on the rest of it. I think it is 40 general 25 on air brakes and 20 on combination. Just a heads up.

Yes you can go home every night, and like db said you wouldnt have to pay for the hotel. I went to the cartersville school back in April and can say nothing but good things about it. Graduated May 4th and the went out with my trainer. Went solo in late august and have enjoyed it. You learn somethin new everyday out here. I'm still learning myself but will help you if I can if you have any questions.

Thanks DB and Gilley... wish i knew how to "multi-quote" lol -
Oh and i read the stuff at the end that tells you what to expect during the driving part of the test.
And Alice never called me back... but i heard something about them sending you a list of things to bring to the school once you pay ur $100... is this true? -
Yea, they sent me a email that had all of that information
-
Oh.. How is their insurance? Details anyone?
