Truck haul has been in a slide ever since casino owner Dennis Troha entered the field about 25 years ago and created Auto Truck Transport Corp after buying up the other truck haul companies. When Troha entered the business all of the major companies were IBT represented with little or no turnover; all hiring was 'word of mouth'.

ATT was created to push Troha's IBT represented companies out of business. In more recent times, Iron Tiger Transportation was created to push ATT out of business. The 'grand plan' is for Truck Movers and Unimark to be the only ones left standing after every other Troha company is underbid and shut down.

Unimark/ Truck Movers have an astronomical turnover. I've talked to too many people who had quit or were about to quit; they either owe the company money or weren't making anything close to what was promised.

ATT isn't hiring but under the current contract (everyone voted against it and it was put in force anyway) $50k a year is pretty much tops; down from $70k 10 to 15 years ago. If someone says they make more than that then they are being paid differently than the rest of us or are probably lying.

Five years ago our recruiting department was telling prospects they would make $75k the first year; not hard to imagine what happened. We are hoping the federal government (not holding our breath) will step in and bust Troha's JHT Holdings for monopolistic practices.

The IBT took JHT Holdings to court in 2003 for the 'double breasting' practice of creating one company to underbid another owned company to get out from under a labor agreement. It's an illegal practice but the federal court said Troha can do whatever he wants. Run his name through any search engine and see what comes up.

I'd stay away from truck haul for the moment. Truck Movers, Unimark and some small independents are the only ones hiring because they can't keep anybody.

    Good luck.:biggrin_25526:
