Due to the fact that yes I snore, I am concerned that I may have to take the sleep study test. My major concern is, does this delay medical clearance to go on training? If it turns out I am diagnosed, do they get you the C-pap machine right away & back to training? I read somewhere that a positive diagnosis would delay your medical clearance (DOT card) for at least 30 days, while you are getting treatment & working with a doctor etc. Is that true? or just some more good old internet dis-information?

first and formost. Do you have a 17inch neck AND BMI of 39%? If not shouldn't have to get the sleep study.. Thats the way it was explained to me.

They have a cell phone unit that attached to the machine and they monitor your usage that way for the first couple weeks. After they are satisfied with your usage you, you detach the cell unit and they monitor with periodic downloads.
Its very simple at Prine. You use the machine they monitor usage and make adjustments with the cell unit. You don't use it to their satisfaction, they pull you in and the doc disqualifies you from driving until you are compliant.
It does not delay training. In fact, if things are really busy they postpone the study a couple weeks as this happened to one of my students. To guarantee he came back for the test the doctor only issued his med card with an expiration of 60 days.urgefan77 Thanks this. -
I had a trainer with prime and have talked with a few others who went through the process. Everything I've heard was that it was all pretty stream-lined. They tell you if you need to take the test, sign you up, and everything is done at the campus inn. I was told you go in and they hook you up to some leads, go to sleep, if you test positive they wake you and get you set up for the machine that same night. Not sure how long it takes to get the actual machine, from what I've heard the entire process is a matter of days, not weeks.
Side note -- if your only concern is that they will test you because of snoring, ever thought about just saying "no" when they ask?urgefan77 Thanks this. -
I went through the whole process and got one of their cpaps. Although I don't agree 100% with their diagnosis, as the machine neither improves nor detracts the quality of sleep I achieve, I have to maintain 70% usage with the machine to stay compliant and not be parked by the doc for 30 days. If the doc flags you when he does the physical you will have to do the test. Most of the time anymore you will go out with a 30 day DOT Card w/o taking the test, it will be your responsibility to make an appointment and get the sleep study done when you come back in to test for your license. The test will take place overnight, and you'll have an appt the following day to go over the results. If they say you have sleep apnea, you'll have to take their machine or go home. The machine runs around $1700 which they'll take out in $55 weekly payments. In comparison, it's cheaper than getting the test and buying a machine on your own. The doc will clear you for 60 days this time, and you will have the cell unit on the machine. As long as your compliance is good when you come back in, doc will probably clear you for a year. If you're below 90 percent or so usage he'll probably only clear you for 90 days, but you can turn in the cell unit at this time. Once you've proven to them you'll wear the thing every night, you'll get your one year clearance. Hope this helps, if you've got any other questions feel free to ask. BOL on your journey through training!
