Okay, sounds like they are just a fashion thing or whatever. If driving makes my hands ache (don't think it will...I drive the 5 ton at work and can still run a farm tractor all day without pain) I'll stick with the curling gloves.

Fingerless gloves get a bad rap due to the "image" they project of "Me big bad supah twucka!". However, I wear them because I like the extra padding between my hands and the vibration of the wheel. Plus, they give my hands a bit of extra traction when I gotta turn the wheel fairly quick, like when backing. With my fingers free, it's easier for me to hit switches and buttons on the dash while I'm driving, or adjust the settings on the CB, like turning up the squelch to tune out some random "Radio Rambo".
Wear'em, don't wear'em. It's down to personal choice. I'll keep mine. I think a driver's attitude and ability say alot more than his gloves.teddy_bear6506, AfterShock, trucker_101 and 3 others Thank this. -
Extra Padding, Extra Traction, flipping the switches and turning knobs.
I bet you drive down the road with this song playin.

I'm sorry I couldn't resist brsims. -
When I was riding my motorcycle......I wore gloves that had the fingers cut off.
When I was through riding or stopped for something to eat or drink........
I took my gloves off. I also took off my leathers, goggles.....etc.
All that stuff was for my safety......that dead cow hide would stand up
to pavement abuse a lot better than my bare skin would.
What I fail to see is the necessity for those type of gloves in the cab of
a Freightliner, International, Volvo etc. while you're driving down the big road.
For #### sure you don't need them for the walk into the TS to eat dinner.
I'm just saying. -
I've been thinking of getting some. The only reason is that I've always had very soft hands and now they're getting rougher and callused. Maybe I'll just get some little white lace gloves and really tick off all the "trucker image police".
Sometimes I even carry my purse into the truckstop not just my wallet. Maybe I'll get a lace parasole too.
*stops rambling*
Okay, there's nothing really "wrong" with the fingerless gloves but it's sort of silly when you look over and see another driver walking around with his garth brooks headset, super cool mirror sunglasses, fingerless gloves, sagging pajama bottoms, flip flops, tee-shirt that says "horn dog", 42 oz mountain dew in one hand and a burrito in the other.
Makes me want to hit him with my purse and parasole.

It's a carryover from the biker image and gotta be a tough guy, from what I've seen. With my little hands, I am able to keep hold of the wheel and make all the motions necessary to operation of my truck. If there is so much vibration in your steering wheel to necessitate a pair of gloves, maybe it's time to get that front end looked at. Oddly enough, many of the folks who say it helps them grip the wheel for backing....have a sissy swivel on their wheel.
I find fingerless gloves beneficial when riding my motorcycle.Hitman, Rerun8963, Texas-Nana and 1 other person Thank this. -
Fingerless gloves can only work in one scenario........

Unfortunately this is the purest example of nasty man hand covers -
