Just got my License, now What to do? I recently graduated at Universal Trucking School in LA (socal) and just got my CDL A on Fridays. My question is do you think the school above is enough training for big companies to consider that an actual truck driving school? The school above is just an 20 hr course that only teaches you the skill test and road test that is needed to get your CDL A (16 hr which is skill while the other 4 hr is behind the wheel). The trucks they used had 6 tires (mini trucks?) which the trailer were about 30 footers. So my question is do you think this is enough experience with trucks for me to brag about my experience to companies?What do you guys think the majority of big companies will tell me to do? Go to their facility for additional training?Etc.. I just want to hit the road and start earning........thanks alot guys....

as in: "I went to school for 2 days, then did a half day in the truck" 2 days? How much did you pay for for that?
| |||
well, i paid 995 and the session is 2 hrs a day times 10 days.......In the end, the only thing I had assurance was that I get unlimited behind the wheel test for DMV........seems like the school wants failures so you can do extra training from them for a nominal fee...

None of the big trucking companies (Werner, Swift, US Xpress, etc) are going to hire you with only 20 hours of schooling. Most prefer at least 120 mininuim. If you are really determed to go OTR your best bet is going to be a small company or working for an owner operater. You also should'nt have too much trouble getting a local class B job like driving dump trucks, etc.
