License Suspended Last Year

I got my license suspended a year ago, because I'm an idiot and sold my car and tossed the plates without turning them into the DMV and then left the country. (No I'm not on the run lol). Thought all was fine and dandy until my Mother informed me that she got a letter from the DMV saying that my license was suspended because of lack of insurance coverage. (I had coverage until the car was sold but obviously let it lapse after that).

Took a lot of run around from NY state before I could find out what would satisfy them to reinstate, plus it took forever getting mail from the states over here. This ended up being a thirty dollar fine, and the license was reinstated this past May. So it was suspended about eight months, and apparently this is going to stay on my record according to DMV.

I have other questions before I come back to the US and sign up at a trucking school, but is this a deal breaker when it comes to actually finding a job? I could probably stick it out in Korea until the fall of '09 if this will help age things at all.

Thumbs up

Nope, it isn't a deal breaker. Just be sure that you explain what, when, and how it happened. Space is provided on most applications for this.

I had a similar issue in the past....the guy looked at me like I was nuts for even bringing it up.

Great, thanks for the quick response.

Now as far as work history goes, they might have some difficulty verifying what I've done in Korea because of the language barrier, particularly at my previous job, although the job I'm in now has foreign managers so if they don't mind making internation calls that can be verified.

Besides that issue, I had nine months in 2004 where I was unemployed back in the states. I finished my one year contract last year in Korea, but that was the first time I have stayed in the same job for a year since I graduated college in '03. (Never been fired though).

Hopefully I'm just being a worrier, but I'd appreciate comments on this issue as well.

Most companies never bother to verify non-driving jobs, and I don't imagine they would spend much effort to verify out of country jobs.

The DOT laws make them keep a record of what you've done for the last 10 yrs or so, that is why they ask.
