All these posts are good to read. All of 'em are right is the reason why.

I remember I had to turtle race sometimes while driving a Swift rig. Most of those times, I was passing an orange truck from SNI. I think Schneider's rigs were governed at 55 back when Swift's speed was 57.

True, when a guy comes up on your left flank at 1 mile an hour over, maybe you should back out of it and let him over. However, maybe that guy shouldn't be there on the left flank in the first place if he knows it'll be a race o' the tortoises. To me, the burden of slowing down in that case is on the truck trying to make the pass. He should see the situation developing and act accordingly. He should be able to predict the results of a long, drawn-out turtle pass and back out if he starts to become a dam holding back traffic. Yeah, the one making the pass is the one causing the problems, and should have sense enough to back out before he has a ten-mile-long line of new friends.

I think the fuzz in some states will bust drivers for this. They should, anyway.

Although the majority of the time I will go with the "courtesy" side of this disagreement, and back off enough for the passer to get by me.....I do agree with Tip wholeheartedly. If I'm running a light trailer at 67, and you're running heavy at 68...WTF??? Why did you jump out there in the hammer to begin with? And why is it MY problem to back off and show courtesy to the mile of vehicles that YOUR dumb ##### is holding up? Even if I did back of at this point, now I'm gonna end up trying to get past you again when you dog out on the next hill.
Of course, as someone else said, I could jump into the next pickle park and kill a few minutes.....but what fun would that be?

I know it's been a long while since I've driven (about 20 years), but, wouldn't it make sense that if you are empty or light-loaded to just let a loaded guy go?

I am not familiar with the governing you guys have to deal with....yet, but he can probably build up a better head of steam coming down the hill for the next incline and since he is speed limited AND loaded he will need it (probably under-powered too).

Even when I am in a 4-wheeler on the interstate I try not to dive back in front of a driver because I know he is going to be speeding up coming down the next grade.

I would vote for just giving the loaded guy a little leeway and kick it back a couple of MPH for a few. But what the hell do I know?

These road races happen majority of time on the flat lands. Then when the overpass or small hill comes into play, the race begins. Not a big enough hill to build the speed up.

Sounds to me like both drivers were being a bit mule-ish about it -- one determined to pass and the other just as determined not to let him.

And probably a string of four-wheelers stuck behind you two... and then you guys wonder why some four-wheelers don't like big truck drivers...

Me? You can tango all you want. I'm the type to just hang back and watch the action. People... and that includes those behind the wheel... are interesting. I like to wonder sometimes what's going on inside their heads.

But in all fairness, I generally give them the benefit of the doubt.

What happens here is when you back off they will cut around you. Then you have to back way off because you are now drafting. They can't pull away. I have a 70 mph truck and run 65 loaded. I run 60 when empty to balance out my mpg for fuel bonuses. The passing truck if he can't do it needs to back down and fall into his place. The driver that is cruising in the slow lane is not the one holding up traffic. I get over to let morons on from the on ramp. When they get stupid and rude and won't let me back over I back out so I am not a swift; I mean rolling road block!

David is governed at 72 and the way he handles the drag race is hit the middle pedal. Most times he is only driving 63-65 on cruise. Why pay to see money go out the stacks?
Not to say every once in awhile he gets a wild hair and has to blow everyone away, but that is just him being a guy LOL

I've been there, I had a guy try to pass me for 50 miles or better on I 76 east of Denver. I was running low on hours and could have dropped back, but when a werner guy says he's running out of hours he means it.

most of the time I will let the other guy set the pace, as long as it's 69 1/2 MPH

I am governed at 65 as well if you are trying to pass me and I see we are going to have a turtle race I will hit the brake and let you by. My problem is even loaded my truck pulls strong (makes me wonder what it could do)So the first time we hit a fair size hill I am going to catch up to you. Unless the hill is really long I will lay back and start thinking of how to put space between you and me. If it is a long hill I am going around you I don't want to read the back of your truck for the next 100 miles either.Roadway trucks must be governed about the same speed as me because this seems to happen the most with them.

The thing that irritates me is when I get over to let you on the freeway and you want to turtle race me that just cranks me up.either hit the brakes and let me out of the hammer lane or go on by but don't hang me out there and I know there are some drivers out there who do this intentionally with ungoverned trucks cause it as happened to me .They will hang you out there let traffic backup behind you wait for other drivers to start yelling at you to get out of the hammer lane and then speed off.
