Newbie considering Gordon Trucking soon as I get trained and cdl.
Checked out several co's, Stevens, England,Schneider,etc. & I found posts on all those but nothing on Gordon. Any thoughts or suggestions. Looking for the best naturally. I am considering them as I haven't heard anything bad , or good about them for that matter. Read a blog of a Gordon newbie and he seemed real happy 6 months into his career.

Does no one know anything about Gordon Trucking?

I havent heard anything about gordon but starting pay is up there in the higher echelon for begginers. I filled out my application today and as soon as graduate I am heading to Portland with my family then driving to Seattle/ Pacific/Washington for orientation then I will be in the Heavy Haul fleet, Washington Oregon Idaho western Montana and British Columbia

Gordon trucking has a lot to offer. They offer some of the top pay for beginning drivers. They are very strict when it comes to safety. They work very hard to get you home when you request time off. Maintenance is pretty good as long as your at one of their terminal, otherwise plan on being stuck for a few days. About 70% of their freight is in California, which means western 17, california dedicated, and any other runs for solos plan on being in california alot. They could use some quidance when it comes to training, I personally got thrown into their heavy haul division without any training. I might of sliped through, but I wasn't happy none the less. They are very strict about giving notice when you quit them. This might of been just a grudge by a driver manager. They haul alot of paper rolls. Its not uncommon to have to slide fifth wheel with this outfit. communication amoung day and night dispatch is very poor in my eyses aswell as shippers and recievers. I had several instances such as showing up for a preloaded trailer just to get their and wait 5 hours because its a live load. the clock start when I moved the truck making my day half gone. also no pu number when arriving to shippers because the load was scheduled to be picked up two days ago.
I personally believe GTI is headed in the right direction and would make a great start for most drivers. However if your fresh out of school don't expect to see a bunch of new drivers in orientation. mine had maybe 3.
what does that tell ya. My first company had about 3 experienced drivers. I burned my ties, dont burn yours

My recruiter says heavy haul will give me the best hometime options ,home 3 out of every 4 weekends and with me just relocating to Portland in January I want to not be out too long as it will be tough on my family ,so I guess heavy haul it is, anymore info will be greatly appreciated

relocating to portland is a good move. You will be able to get home more. Starting off in the heavy haul division may work. You may also get on a dedicated run to california and back. You have alot of great options from where you live. I had issues and reading old qc messages in truck I was assigned the previous driver had issues. I suggest try it for a few weeks and if its not for you, then move to another division. I screwed up and gave no notice, when I should of changed divisions. My last load was suppose to be preloaded. My current load was less then 100 miles away. I got up as soon as my 10 hours was so I can maximize my miles. I droped my current load and arrived to pick up a loaded trailer that dispatch qc me. fyi this trailer would be loaded to night. When I arrived it turned into a live load. The shipper allowed several locals to be loaded ahead. around 8 hours later I was loaded to drive another 150 miles. Once you start your day your done in 14 hours. Poor communication somewhere in the chain. none the less things happen. This company does have potential.

Hey there. I ran H.H. for Gordon too. I ran a year for them 2005. Agree with you on all your posts. I gave them a month notice.

I had some not so pleasant times with the whole DM crew on Heavy Hall. Wanted way too much from me and my log book. And what about those treacherous roads during the winter? 100k + on freezing fog? Hmmm.

OR, "Just get there, back into your bay, and go in the sleeper." And then what do I do when I am unloaded? What do I do when my shipping bill shows me working when I am on "Sleeper" line? Safety and I went in circles with on that one.
