hi, my husband is interested in the bulk division...we live in Atlanta..can he train here? If not where is it ? Is there paid training? Thanks for answering our questions

From what I was told, all bulk training takes place in PA. All the basic stuff is done in Carlisle, then 2 days over near Pittsburgh. After training, he'd be assigned a truck out of the Atlanta terminal, and would park his truck there when he was home.

Hi Bigike, I just finished training in the bulk division, I live near Baton Rouge. I had no experience so I Had to go to the whole training session in Dallas. After Dallas I went to Reserve, La for additional training. There was an experienced driver in my class in Dallas who also lived in atlanta. He done all of his training in Dallas, then went to Reserve, after reserve he went back to atlanta to ride with a local guy there. Hope this helps.

my hubby has been with them for about a year as a company driver. his truck is equipped the the basic qualcom and am/fm radio with tape deck, ability to connect his own cb, fridge, microwave, and tv. But remember that poor truck can only supply so much power. As far as pay, well we have had our hard times but when other companies were sitting still this winter with no loads he was running 3000+ miles a week. These last couple weeks have been a little slow with only about 2200 miles. The pay in the beginning isn't much but stick with it. Watch your over speed and out route miles and you should do fine. If you have a problem with something go to your DBL and be firm but professional. You get more with being sweet than being rude.

I called Scheider 2 das. ago and asked them about getting on with their school. They told me they weren't excepting people from Arizona. I asked them if they would take me if I was from Riverside, CA and they said yes.

Schneider also said they are only taking on people who will team drive. Has anyone heard this?

On the subject of Schneider hiring me if I lived in another area, does anyone have any experiance, or ideas with this kinda problem? Could it be solved by just moving to a motel room in an area their hiring in? Or give the address of a friend, or take my motor home to an area they r hiring?

I vaguely remember something about teams. All I hear on the radio now is ads from Schneider about experienced drivers and I think they are expanding their team operations.

As far as location. Basically, Schneider views your home as an issue. They aren't hiring in your area because they might not have regular dependable freight going to Kingman AZ. If they did, they would be able to hook you up with a load to get home. Also, As far as I know, they don't have an OC anywhere near that. Vegas is a high crime city as far as trailers is concerned and I don't think they have anything in Flagstaff either.
Its not that they are being selfish, but they are thinking of getting you home and there is a certain window around their OC's that they will hire you from. If they can't get you home...
For example, Im up in Gods Country. No OC for a long time in any direction. Schneider only has three employees (so I was told) that actually live in the state, and Im one of them. The reason and only reason I was hired on was because I am on a dedicated run and it just so happened by the luck of God that I live in the same exact city in my state where that freight comes to and is swapped with another route, which happens to be mine. If anything where to happen as far as my ded route going belly up and Id lose that position, Id go into the OTR system but they would have me at the nearest OC and I would probably have to drive there, unless I could weasel a day or two at home from a load i was carrying that just happened to go on the interstate that runs through my town.
Riverside on the other hand, thats a birds fart of a distance from the Fontana OC, they have lots of openings there.
Basically, you would need to have some sort of tax home (for per diem reasons). Be it a place you rent from friends, a trailer in a trlr park. It has to be a home that you can at least go to when you are not driving. It could even be a room that you rent from someone for when you get back to town. However, I dont think you can rent it as a hotel room deal, only paying when you are there...make it a regular rent thing...rent it for each month.

Your right about Veags. What a scum hole, I live there 2 yrs. almost everybody's a thief, including the business' who simply have a lic. to steal.

Ok, what about the team driver statement the Schneider recuriter mentioned yesterday. Is this their way of cutting back? And you mentioned ads for exp. drivers. These actions must be ways for them to deal with the fuel crisis and slow down.

It takes awhile to put all the stuff one reads on this forum together. It looks like the story, (that the industry needs drivers), is basiclly old news. Just my lucky!

Well I lived in Vegas for a year, I didn't think teh crime rate was that bad, although I wasn't by the strip either. Schneider just seemed to have a bit of troubles with trailer thefts and such over there.

As far as team driving, Im not sure what is going on. They might have just had some new businesses and need more team operations, Im not sure. I do think they are cutting back as far as not takign on as many inexperienced drivers, although they could be....just not as full bore as they were this time last year.

Pricey? It's the only place I know, except, a short time in Vegas and here in Kingman! Were would a place be thats not so pricey, based on your experience?

On the subject of new drivers, inexperianced, I do believe they may be cutting back based on what we have dicussed here.(I may be a wannabe for quite awhile). It may get worse, oil is at $126.00 a barrel today. When oil was $60 last year, gas was $3.00 a gal.; by this, gas should be over $6.00 a gal. today. So, somebody's holding back, because the price would shock us and probably kill the economy above and beyound what's happened so far. The point being when the real price of fuel kicks in there's going to be a serious problem in our country. It will be to expensive to deliver products. Product shipment could be limited to regional delivery. ANOTHER STORY FOR ANOTHER THREAD.
