Well I got put on Elogs last Thursday and I have to tell ya it does way better than I do. There are a few issues I do not like about them and I will tell you below.
First when you stop the truck to go into truck stop, rest area and so on it automatically puts you on duty not driving. I always forget to change it to off duty.
Hate waiting and watching the minutes pass by until I can drive again. No leaving a few minutes early anymore.
If your one of those that log a short 15 or 30 minutes on your pre-trip and never do a pre-trip your going to still have to wait the amount of time you put down until you can drive,
Putting you driving when you are in parking lots and so on. From what I have experienced so far is you can drive a good distance as long as you don't go over a certain speed. I do not know that speed because I don't want it to put me on the drive line so I drive about five MPH.
This is good if you move from a noisy spot in a truckstop.
Things I like about the Elogs""""
No more worries or stopping to make sure you have the correct time on your 11 and 14. A warning will sound and a bright blinking red triangle when you get withing one hour and 30 minutes letting you know.
You can put it on the DOT screen that will count down while you watch your hours.
No more worries about making a mistake or log violations unless you go over 11 and 14. No more log classes!
Anyone else using them? So far I like it just really don't like the on duty thingy because now my on duty time has tripled a day.
Yes you can go back and edit before you approve your log but just seems to me it would make it easier to go off duty. Because when you drive it automatically put you driving.
Oh what fun! Elogs

I used elogs when driving for central refrigerated. The system didn't put you on line 3 until you went 7/10ths of a mile. If I needed to move a short distance such as a truck stop or shipper/receiver I would drive 1/2 mile, turn truck off, restart truck and drive another till I was where I wanted to be. Also, if I pulled into a stop and didn't go to line 4 manually it would put me there automaticly after the truck hadn't moved in 5 min. It would back the time up 5 mins when the truck stopped. This was good when you were sitting in a traffic jam. I was also able to edit my logs. The only line you could not edit was line 3. I was able to change a certain time period from line4 to line 1 or 2. I even had times when satalite connection was lost for a period of time while driving and it put me on line 4. I don't know if swift is using the same software but that is how it worked when I drove for central in 2009 for a year. Will be going with swift, have orientation monday the 16th in reno/sparks nevada.

7/10ths of a mile is right, also above 5mph it will put you in the drive line.
We had a briefing on elogs the other day. Your DM can make adjustments if you mess up, btw. -
I am waiting to see when they require us o/o to upgrade. The orignal QC unit in my truck cost about 4k. As I understand the conversion, the old unit is completely removed, then the new one is installed.

I was just there last Thursday, and was talking to Dan from the Log/Safety Department, and asked him this same question, and I just picked up a new truck with the new QC installed, and he told me that by 2012, when it is law. They were giving class that afternoon, and I was not required to attend. What I did hear, is that when you do start on E-logs, you have to keep both paper and E-log for 8 days.

RADAR, how long did you work for central, are you leaving cause they keep there drivers out 3 to 4 weeks, i think thats what it is, 2 weeks is the norm. have grass to cut at the house so i understand that, or is it those lumbers for those reefer loads, swift is a good company, read alot threads on them, you will have no problem getting home
-
Yea you have to do your hand written logs for 8 days. Tomorrow is my last day then I am throwing it out on the highway in Nebraska!!!
Today I had to drive around the entire Walmart DC at a low speed and was hoping it did not put me on the driving but it did. Oh well just will be using the off duty tab every chance I get since it logs by minutes.
Just takes some time to get use to it and I think it will be fine. -
