Anywho...the meat comes pre packaged and I think already weighed and priced out. All the employee does is take it out of the package and put it on the shelf...I believe there are expiration dates on there...or sell by dates. Crimeny...maybe they weigh and price it there...they do have a printer and scale in that room back there...argh. cant remember. Quote:
There is no way to tell if a chicken from the deli was out dated. Not trying to be sarcastic...its just not possible, lol. Their rotisserie chicken is thawed in the smaller of two meat department coolers (the one that is used for poultry and fish). It is then seasoned and cooked in the store. They have set time limits for how long the chicken can sit out under the warmers. They also have a logbook they use along with a thermometer to record temperatures of each batch of food, as well as periodic (not sure how often) temp checks of the food under the warmers. Anything that is fried, started off frozen. Granted, they have various sauces that they coat the chicken in afterwards...might have been a funky flavor they were trying (as they do have a new flavor out now for their boneless wings). As far as them soaking it in vinegar...unless you actually saw a bottle of vineger, and them pouring it in a bowl and the chicken into the bowl....you can't be sure. Coating the chicken in Vinegar is breaking many food safety violations as well as store policies. I highly doubt they did this at all. I know they have chicken tenders, but they also have other breaded chicken pieces. I tried some and I thoguht I was getting the tenders, but got like breaded breasts or something...tasted weird, but it was just the breading. As far as the packaging...lol whats with the vinegar? The red you see in meat is blood. Adding vinegar to it will not make the meat go from brown to red again. The puffed up packaging is a air mixture they pump in, that adds some extra shelf life to the meat. I think its a higher concentration of oxygen which keeps the meat redder, longer. There was a buzz about this practice last year, but many companies do this as there is nothing wrong with it. Just because meat loses its color a little bit, people think its poisonous to eat. I could be wrong about this...but I do remember the practice being in the news of meat packing companies doing something like this.

The rolls of hamburger meat was the only issue I had with them. I went to the meat counter and told them here smell this and they said what is wrong I again insisted that they smell the meat. I told them if they do not remove all the meat from their case and get rid of it I was calling the police. I called the health department, usda everyone I could think of and well they had alot of work to do for a while. They started doing their own meat for a while untill they got another place to do it or atleast took care of the issues. I have never bought meat at walmart again. I have also on occasion quit shopping at walmart for the poor service and the disrespect that I was getting there. Things have changed some their service still is poor but I no longer wait for service if I do not see what I want or can not reach what I want I go somewere else I have gotten bad milk from them even with the date being good but I have also gotten back milk other places too. I can not understand the milk prices though most of the milk I buy are from the same plant just different lables but the prices varry alot. I know a guy that worked at the local milk plant and he told me how to tell if it came from that plant. |

Tyson is their beef supplier. Other big name companies provide the pork and chicken. They do not handle meat or package it in any way, shape or form. WHen you see a WM employee walking out of the meat department, they are simply a stockman who works in the meat department with additional food handling training. As far as the other issues, thats something you have to work out. If I can't reach something, I find someone to help. If I cant...I get a broom and reach it. lol...this past week, I had to get a bottle of Marsala wine...and there was two bottles on the back of the top shelf. I was going to get a broom but figured that would be a bad idea with glass bottles; so I basically took down a few bottles so I could reach. Nothing like using some of that brain matter up between my ears once in a while. Talk to the manager, write a complaint or whatever. However, I tend to feel that if one gets poor service from lots of people at one place...or at a brand of store...its the customer that is the problem. You would be surprised beyond belief how many customers would come up to me in the Toy Section asking about baby products (on the other side of the store)...or customers coming up to me while I worked in Frozen...asking about ammunition for their guns. Another guy came up to me and asked me what frozen foods are good to eat for someone who has had a heart attack. Uh...Im not a doctor, and two...no frozen foods are good outside of Vegetables because of sodium content. As far as milk and prices...Wal Mart...just as with any other of their Great value Brands...does not actually package those things. Its generally a big name company who makes the same product, and cans a similar (or the same) thing in a GV / WM label. For milk...Im sure Wal Mart has been able to buy large quantities from the dairy companies which reduce their overall cost.
