Re: What are the safest and most dangerous truckstops??

I can tell ya from an experience last night that the T/A and Pilot and 75 Chrome Shops in Wildwood Fl are getting to be extremely dangerous.

I was dozing in my bunk last night at the Pilot truckstop when I heard voices outside. Sounded like murmuring so I just listened a bit, then I heard scratching coming from the front driver compartment and the truck moved a bit. I slowly got out of the bunk without moving the truck and peeked through the crack between the curtains. I saw a coat hanger wire coming between the glass and rubber seal and reaching for my door handle. I reached down and grabbed my gloves and put one on my right hand and THREW OPEN the curtains screaming bloody murder.

I grabbed the wire and ripped it the rest of the way into the cab before the guy could register that I was there. I think I pulled it fast enough, it cut his hand. He and his friend had this "oh s***" look on their faces and they dropped off the truck. Ran in 2 different directions. I ain't never seen someone run so fast as they did. A bunch of drivers wondered what they were doing so I told them on the cb that they tried breaking in my truck.

I called the local PD and reported this activity to them and their dispatcher said "We'll send someone out IF we get the chance". I could tell by the tone of the reply that there wouldn't be anyone coming. I was like "ummm OK. Dont bother then cuz im moving the truck so save my own life. Thanks for nothing" and hung up

At this point, I decided that the pilot and 75 chrome shop, which have linked parking lots, weren't the best place. I started the truck and moved over to the T/A. I had to park near the back in one of the only places left to park there since that &^%& (*^(*%%*% idleAIRE wont let anyone park in their spots anymore.

I went inside and used the restroom and came back out to the truck. I laid back down and wasn't half asleep and I heard voices again. I listened real close this time. The one guy was like "are you sure he didn't come back to his truck?" The other guy said he was sure and to shut up. I heard the scratching at the same time.

This time I didn't even try stealth. I came out of the bunk with my tire thumper, slammed the door open and knocked the one guy down. I jumped onto the top step of my tank and started swinging at the guy who fell down. The other guy ran off. I got the one guy on the ground a good one across the face with the thumper. He left teeth behind before he got away. This time a T/A shop guy and IdleAIRE guy saw what happened. They told me to wait there while they called the cops.

I called the cops myself and got the same reply as I did earlier. I sat for 4 hours before a cop finally showed up and said he couldn't do anything about it. I think the local PD have more or less stopped coming by for anything less then murder at these dumps.

I ended up going to the pilot in Belleview to finish out waiting for freight. I'm still sitting here.

I know for sure it wasn't the same 2 guys as the earlier incident cuz the last 2 guys had different hair. not dreadlocked. If you stop in Wildwood, Don't stay or you WILL be robbed

Re: What are the safest and most dangerous truckstops??

I don't blame you one bit. You see, that's something else these liberals don't understand. Your first line of defense in any situation is yourself. The cops either can't or won't do anything about it. "That's what the police are for.", the communists say, but as you found out, they take their sweet ole' time getting there.

When one chooses to engage in such hazardous occupations as burglary, or in your case truckjacking, the lowlifes in question either knowingly or unknowingly assume the inherent risks that come with the territory, such as encountering the owner of the property who is more than willing to defend and protect it by whatever means necessary. That's God's way of weeding out the undesirables as far as I'm concerned, yet for some reason the criminals get all the sympathy. I'm sorry, but I feel absolutely nothing for some scumbag who attempted to take or violate what belongs to another, and got himself beat up or shot for his trouble.

There. I'm done ranting. Now I feel better.

When the weather turns cold, Florida gets weird.

Last winter I did a 34 hour shutdown in Wildwood. Oh my goodness. . .

Wildwood is at exit 329 on I75. It's one mile north of where the Florida turnpike begins at I75 going to Orlando and points south.

Place is a dump. Stay away.

I stayed there a couple of times. Didn't seem that bad. But that was a long time ago.

IIRC, the Florida HP routinely patrol the rest areas, that might be a safer place to park than the truckstops.

Re: What are the safest and most dangerous truckstops??

Personally I like the Petro in Rochelle,IL on I-39 & RT-38,better than any I have been at so far.Nice big lot,Streakin Beacon,Iron Skillet, movies, games, and a nice store full of accessories for the truck and driver. As for the crappiest truck stop. What is is Steel City or something like that across from the Flying J in Gary,IN?That place scares me lol I'm only about 5'10" and 135lbs and not afraid to carry my pocket knife on me when it comes to places like that.I try to avoid it but sometimes when you get jammed up in Chicago traffic and run out of hours ya gotta park somewhere.I park at the J but that's probably not much safer.
