    TMC

This is the company I cut my teeth with and would reccommend anyone looking to start out flatbedding to go to. They get you home every weekend without fail. Since I left they acquired another company called PFT and opened a longhaul division for those of you who want to be out for extended periods of time. You gat to choose how you are paid eithier percentage or mileage, I choose mileage and took home between 800-1000 a week on average. They have great equipment, the thing I liked the best was how they approach training. They have a do right or dont do it at all attitude and i liked that. The safety department is very much that SAFETY. If you want to learn how to flatbed consider these guys.

    Re: TMC

I've only heard good things about TMC. I have a friend who just started working for them about 2 months ago, and really likes the company. He works on percentage, is always within a day of home and gets home during the week sometimes and almost every weekend. He's at the starting rate, 25% I think, and averaging about a $1000 a week. They run new Peterbuilts (his had 32K on it), give the driver the truck right from the start, and insist, at their expense, that the truck be washed at least once a week. They have pride in their equipment, treat my friend really well, and actually appreciate and understand drivers represent profit, not overhead.

    Re: TMC

I am currently in orientation with TMC. I can tell you that most of what has been said about the company in this thread is true. I have never seen a company more focused on safety. Most people start out at 23% though unless you have considerable and verifiable flatbed experience. The hometime policy is that they guarentee you home at least 46 out of 52 weekends per year. If you go with them I would HIGHLY suggest you take the linehaul division and not longhaul. With linehaul you can do longhauls if you want but longhaul you are stuck doing longhaul. The oldest truck they own is a 2006 but most are 2007 Petes. Sharp trucks with alot of chrome. They do require washing once a week and they aren't messing around with that. They want them to continue to look sharp to keep up their company image. The only thing I do not like is that anyone who has been with the company gets Michelin X1s on the drive wheels.

    Re: TMC

23% is only the lowest rate. With proper effort you can jump to 32% within one month. You will reach 28% within one month unless you are dead.

I am going to be starting on the longhaul division home every other weekend due to my remote location. TMC is expanding into the Northeast and with more drivers they may be able to set up a home every weekend gig this far north. There is even a home daily option for drivers in select areas areound New York City. (Personally I wouldn't deliver into NYC everyday just to be home every night. )

I'll be in Des Moines on Monday Nov 6th - perhaps I'll see you there Toolfan. I'll be the guy from Maine.

If you stay at 23% you shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car let alone a truck. You gotta try to screw up to stay there. The company pays based upon how good of a worker you are not how many miles you have driven. So if you are a new driver you will make alot more money here then anywhere else.

    Re: TMC

TMC has some sort of "dedicated" job in my area (new england) out of Norwood, Mass i believe, but i haven't really checked into it. i would imagine that they would have the same "set up" as if a person were to go OTR for them, regarding training, etc if a person needs it. if i can get more info on this, i will post it later next week.

P.S., i just checked their website, and no mention of any of the dedicated accounts they have let alone the new england operation.

Halloween is over - stop telling scary stories.

Swift preys on companies that are in financial trouble. TMC is not in financial trouble as far as I can tell.

Yeah the new northeast accounts have not made it to the TMC website yet. I beleive that the majority of the new northeast division is going to be servicing the construction of the "freedom tower" or whatever they decide to call the replacement for the World Trade Center.
