seems as though "edit post" button is not there later, someone else also commented on the matter with the same issue, will go find it for you if I have to but you can look on my recent posts, it is the immediate previous one to this one

should not go away that fast, if ever, and should not be hard to find ~ sorta like the "changing screen names" thing as most do not realize to pester an administrator for things like that

I don't think posts should be editable for an infinite amount of time, because multiple edits to various posts in a thread would make it difficult to follow the discussion. Members are able to edit their own posts for the first 24 hours (I think) after it is posted, which allows for plenty of time to fix mistakes or grammar.

I think the 'Edit Post' button is easy to find directly below your own posts. Many members use the "Reply With Quote" button which is similarly located, so I don't see any problem with the location.

I compose my post. I reread it and try to find errors. English is not my strong subject. I post and reread it again.

Sometimes I have to edit and it never takes more than 10 minutes.

It shouldn't take a hour to edit if ones does their proof reading as they go.

If someone wants to add something later, simply start a new post. :biggrin_25520:

If one has a laptop or desktop, Google Chrome is great for forums. It automatically highlights mispelled words as you type and offers suggestions.

Sometimes I post from the phone on a short break and later I might read it when parked and have the laptop out. Might want to add something or change at that point.

395.199 Forum postings can only be done on 10 hour breaks. :biggrin_2559:

On the other end if we had open editing, we could have several pages accumulated on a thread and the OP decides he doesn't like what he see's and deletes the post via an edit. Then we have a totally useless thread where twenty people wasted their time.

Mods will help anyone, even a post delete if conditions are right like not many replies or something that could hurt someone,....... Changing ones mind a couple days later because of negative comments and there is five pages isn't one of them. We have to control that part or a bunch of members get upset.

I saw that happen on another forum I used to frequent. The OP didn't like the direction that the thread had taken--and it was a silly topic to begin with--so he went back and edited all his posts with punctuation marks, smilies, and other nonsense. For that reason alone, I almost universally support a time limit on edits.

that is common view of the matter but fact is few actually dig that deep and anyone who does can just bump to a new initialized focus point or start a new thread ....... few if any actually dig deep enough for that to be major concern though for what it is worth the style of the site suggests your view is the correct way to do it

The other thing that I have seen with forums who have unlimited editing, is that a person can go back and change what they originally posted to an entirely different view. Then start ragging about, "But that is NOT what I said, go look at the post." There are no limits on how nutso some folks are when they are sitting behind a keyboard and screen, rather than talking face to face.
