    I was taught that clearance was at least 3 inches higher than posted, unless there is special wording like exactly added to it. There was 1 in Chicago land that says exactly 13'7". If that bridge is actually 13'8" clearance or even more, there is lots of reason for any trucker to be angry , former or not.

    A driver needs to know the height of the rig and the height of the structure to make a judgment of the close ones, if in doubt, measure it. If you can't measure it, turn around or proceed very cautiously, stopping before you hit anything. A new atlas from Rand-McNally will give updated clearances for the major roads and truck routes, but any time there are circumstances that would change that clearance, it is the responsibility of the driver to check it before causing damage. I do line haul(live haul), so I'm not buying another atlas this year

    I ran into a situation this past week where the curvature of the road played tricks on my perception. Much to the dismay of all the traffic behind me ;)

    Sign said 14'0" I was like no ####### way! Brought it down to a crawl, the trailer cleared it by about 2 inches. Not exactly 14 feet in my book.

    This was one of the recent roadbed repairs made in the Cleveland area, to allow 13' 6" clearance. It had previously been 12' 10"

    Glad to not read about it on the accident reports, sounds like it still isn't right. Beware of new construction and signs. Experience is nice.
