Big rig crash ties up traffic on southbound I-880 at High Street
9/5/07
OAKLAND - Two big rigs caused a spectacular crash in the southbound lanes of I-880 near High Street shortly before 9 a.m. this morning.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash was causing traffic to back up on southbound I-880.
An eyewitness said a big rig in the slow lane drove into the side of a big rig in the next lane and both 18-wheeler, tractor-trailers slid across the freeway and wound up in the fast lane next to the center divider.
The trucks also hit an SUV, the witness said. Initial reports were there were no injuries, but traffic backed up rapidly behind the accident. "It was spectacular," the witness said.
