3 Trucks Wrecked In Crash On Interstate 80-94

Cargo From One Truck Strewn All Over Traffic Lanes

Three semi-trailer trucks were wrecked in a crash that left debris and wreckage strewn across Interstate 80-94 in Gary, Ind., early Thursday.

As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the crash occurred in the predawn hours on eastbound 80-94 just east of Broadway and west of the Interstate 65 junction in Gary.

One truck was almost fully demolished, and its cargo was spread all over the roadway. Another semi hit the truck so hard that it obliterated the vehicle's trailer and blew out its cargo, forced it to jackknife into the center median, and tore out the right side of the cab.

Its an absolute miracle that this doesn't happen at least once a day in that general area of 80/94.

There is NO traffic enforcement and its a reckless free-for-all 24 hours a day there.

My hubby drives through there all the time. Says it's crazy, turns into a frenzy right around there.

That is an understatement.

It is more like a road race. They pass on both sides, you are doing 65. They then pull in front in the safe zone you have to the vehicle you are following. The big trucks have gotten far worse than the 4 wheelers on that stretch. Most of the time the trucks are not even a full truck between them.
