Here is a one sheet explaining split breaking. Top grid has the 8 hour break first and the 2nd grid has the 2 hour break first.

Also I am testing to see if I can post attatchments

Thank you,
I can't answer the poll , cause I don't know anything yet! But I was able to open the word document and print it. So, yes the attatchment worked, and now I have a copy, and am already 1 step ahead.

Well keep studying it and be 20 steps ahead Really, DOT website has some examples of split breaking, although they do not add stopping in the middle of the day etc, they are trying to get you to focus on the point of split breaking. Take my A,B & C step and figure out if there is a violation or not. Remember you have to pretend the time that has happened in the future is not there yet That's the hard part in learning it.

And ask questions if you don't understand!

Thanks, this will certainly be useful in explaining split breaking to some of the drivers I look over.

Now there is a small fee for using it to teach

No really, there will be a much better one if I can ever GET ER DONE

I will have one that has a 2 -3 day explination, hoping to keep it going for 4 days to show a driver how to do it.
More auditors need to learn it and teach it to the drivers. The more the drivers understand the regulations the less likely they will need to run illegal .

Thanks

I haven't had time to learn the DOT regulations yet. School is for sissies, I have you and Road Dog. Are there rules about switching split breaking with regular breaking? Can you do split breaking one day and regular the next, depending on the requirements of your schedule? Logic would dictate that this was the impetus for split breaking rules to begin with.

Just the thought of trying to keep that log straight makes the brain cramp up; but looking at it on paper, it makes more sense than a straight ten hours. I don't see starting my day at midnight but stopping in the middle of the day to take a walk/ shower/ lunch/ catch up on emails... I like it. Thanks.

Well thanks for the compliment. Anytime you need help just ask, if I don't know I will get the answer (eventually). I know everything about logs (minus a few doubts about the personal use, I hate that question) but always willing to learn new things.

Yes you can split break anytime and when you want to stop split breaking make sure you take a FULL 10 HOUR break! Remember the 2 hour break does not extend the 14 hour. I have something that might help out, but it is not finished yet. I would have to e-mail it. I don't have any words to it yet , but it shows a 2 day pattern of split breaking and you click your way through it so you see each step at a time. I don't have it at home yet, but I can if you would like to see a good 2 day split? I am waiting to get it completed to "hopefully" post it here!

No, I think I'm good. I was just trying to wrap my brain around switching back and forth. You made it eloquently clear. If I want to go 11/14 straight through the next day, I just need to extend my 8 hour break to a 10 hour break before I start my new day.

Gaming the system

I have nothing to say, really, as new to trucking as I am. I apparently need to post something in order to read the doc about split breaking. That was not mentioned in my training at all, yet, though I do have time to ask about it.
